How did you start working with DriveTribe? Is being a journalist your full time occupation? (genuinely interested)
I started working for Tim (Shmee) when I was 16/17 writing basic articles for his Blogspot page. Shmee and The Supercar Kids then merged so to speak and I moved over to TSK. I was an editor on there and then moved up to Chief Editor. That got shut down after being hacked and it wasn't financially viable to continue with it. Although it paid I still had a day job so it was essentially a hobby. I then didn't write for about a year until I got offered this freelance job with DRIVETRIBE which I started just over a week ago. I work from home and it's my current full time job. How did you start working with DriveTribe? Is being a journalist your full time occupation? (genuinely interested)
I wouldn't be in this position if it wasn't for Tim taking a risk on me in the first place. It's enabled me to drive some nice cars, attend various events and meeting all the people I do now. I certainly wouldn't have this job. I'm very grateful for the opportunity.

To think that some people don’t get the genius that is MoVlogs. But unfortunately that genius doesn't extend to tempting Lana into a bikini. I just knew it wasn’t going to happen yesterday, but like a mug I watched the entire video, just to see this: https://youtu.be/03de309BfJo?t=574 What the actual ?!?!
If Lana ever makes it into a bikini, in a vlog, she’s going to break the internet.
he's holding it back to entice subscribers!! it's got to happen one day!If Lana ever makes it into a bikini, in a vlog, she’s going to break the internet.

It is not something I could do. I like the idea, but I am not charismatic enough nor do I have the time these days. Plus I am WAY too old. The YT generation was one after mine. It would be nice to go to some the junkets mind to see how the "other half" live, so to speak.

Interesting to know. I guess in these days anyone can pick up a camera and film, but you need an "in" now to get noticed?

I wouldn't say you need an in, but it helps. Most jobs these days are easier to get into if you know somebody that's already there. Age is just a number. If you're passionate about cars and enjoy writing then what's stopping you? Obviously it takes a lot of hard work to get on the spectrum but I do it because I enjoy it rather than for the money. Getting paid to do what you love is fantastic, I just hope it lasts. It is not something I could do. I like the idea, but I am not charismatic enough nor do I have the time these days. I enjoy cars less than I used to, I don't like supercars anymore, especially as they're unobtainable to me, I get bored writing and typing and I have too many other things going on in my life lol. Plus giving up a well paid career on whim is just not cricket
Yeah, I can see your point of view there! Shmee said:
for example seeing speeds in excess of 170km/h in a 50 zone on another video with comments praising that kind of driving.
The speeding thing is something I always wondered about, almost everyone does it and its obviously illegal so is it just an unspoken thing amongst the motoring journos? Speedo is conveniently never on show but you'd think local authorities might want a give them a little talking to...Petrolhead95 said:

Yeah, I can see your point of view there! It is different if in your situation it is something that you have done from an early age etc, you are less likely to have built a career in a certain direction and have a certain earning power as a result. Plus my wife would de-bag me if I quit my job to become a motor journo 2 weeks before we complete our house purchase
Besides, who wants to watch a 36 year old bald fat bloke on you tube talking about a car? I sure as st don't

I don't either unless it's something specific to my interest, but thousands and thousands do watch any old random thing which is why they keep knocking the same old cr*p out. How many times does Alaatin61 have to review the new Audi S5 for gods sake. Must be at least 10, just different colours.Besides, who wants to watch a 36 year old bald fat bloke on you tube talking about a car? I sure as st don't

Matt Prior from Autocar had a lovely piece in his Chiron video at 3:25: https://youtu.be/TnR4P4Lkc04?t=3m25sMatt Prior Autocar said:
I'm driving quite slowly because I'm on a road in Portugal, and all of the driving in this car has been on the road in Portugal where you can do no more anywhere than 120km/h.
Followed by a rather lovely glance at the camera making the point that any other journalists shooting videos at rather high speeds, of which there were many, were doing so on public roads with no special conditions. In recent years I have done my very best to minimise any videos driving over limit and for example the 720S video, other than trickling a couple of km/h over basically that entire video is at the limits of the roads I'm on. It has the frustrating consequence that the audience think I drive 'like a granny', and there's less noise and drama from the car for the video. Let's face it, road speed limits do not faze cars of this capability in the slightest. I have to put up with an awful lot of abuse because I don't chuck a car around on roads like certain others have shown that they are willing to but the law is the law, and I'm not keen to place incriminating evidence there for all to see.
Fortunately I get a lot of opportunities to drive on closed roads, race tracks, and environments where I can push the cars and drive them properly but it is sad sometimes to have to film knowing the abuse is coming. At the end of the day, there are a lot of impressionable people out there too, and setting a good example I believe is more of the right thing to do, ignoring the fact that it's actually speeding and therefore illegal in the first place.

Ironical then that all the cars you review are potential licence loosers. More & more power, more speed is what actually excites people about the cars you review, yet in the UK you can only do 30-70mph and therefore apart from the 'looks' it makes them all a bit redundant in that respect. Maybe properly testing them on the Autobahn is your only option then.In recent years I have done my very best to minimise any videos driving over limit and for example the 720S video, other than trickling a couple of km/h over basically that entire video is at the limits of the roads I'm on. I agree, that is why I was disappointed not to be able to experience the track section of the launch event. Most cars of this performance level are launched at race circuits, as this was too at Vallelunga, just unfortunately the amount of time available made it impossible and equally the 'influencer' day itself collided with the motorbike race.Dave Hedgehog said:
i still have a copy of the vid of 'somebody' taking a passange ride on one of the first P1's down a motorway where it nudged 180 (visible display), it was later replaced with a edited version
It is clear that the social media world is evolving with powers now in many countries that include prosecution by video evidence that may not have existed back then. This is a global game and the rules are so very different everywhere - most of us in this thread are commenting from the UK which is a particular police-state versus other nations including some within the EU.This has however diverted from the topic at hand regarding journalists operating in a professional capacity to create content from a press launch.

O/T, but this snide, passive aggressive type of comment is precisely why PH has gone to the dogs. Hedgehog's comment was perfectly valid, related to another post and didn't deserve that kind of snarky, sarcastic response that only serves to irritate.
Shmee had a video up which he removed after re-thinking it. What point/value does that serve?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
