Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc???????

I'll be in the 1% then. I did a pretty upfront video on my F12 recently. Cost me over 6 months roughly what a brand new Golf would have cost me. Tried to tow the line between being crass, and being helpful.
If I hadn't done an extensive full paint correction and PPF on the F12, would probably have cost me less. And if I had bought a 458 instead of an F12 back then, I probably would have come out with a profit after the 6 months, (I knew this at the time, but wanted the F12).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbfqphlTEig
I bought the F12 and my other cars for me, not for Youtube or the few £pm it makes. Youtube is a hobby and I enjoy creating content/sharing my experiences - and from what I can see, it seems to bring enjoyment to others. Not every 'young' guy on Youtube is being bank rolled by parents, or funding alone while living on the fringe of financial collapse eating beans in their underwear, just to front for social media. (although that happens I'm sure). Shockingly, as in my case, some people under 30 do make enough to afford these things, and finance them sensibly, then come out just fine, having enjoyed their experience. Some, wink, then may benefit from the interest generated by these cars to propel their online influence as a catalyst for other online endeavours.
Seems to be a section of viewers that seem insistent the above is impossible. Perhaps it helps them sleep at night. I'm not moaning, the comments and sniping are expected when you insist on putting yourself out there like I have.

The best part about what, 99% of these vloggers, is that they NEVER explain the true cost of "owning" a supercar in the BS videos they put up apparently explaining the cost. They might touch on fuel and tyres, but wouldn't you know, they forgot to mention anything about the £900 per month lease/PCP cost.
Everyone just wants to look like they MADE IT in this world, without actually knowing why. It's all just a show for other people, but turn off the camera, close the curtains at night out of view of that shiny car on the drive/street, and you're still living in your parent's home/some hell hole with brown carpet, sitting in your pants and eating cans of Value baked beans. It's ok though, because when you do make £10 from you YT videos you can treat yourself to Nando's.

Suspect ~20% of vloggers are financially doing good and the other ~80% are doing bad.

good show chap, but the jump cut to a close up of your nuts was most disturbing, and I suspect quite deliberate to catch out filthy lads doing 50 wrist reps on their funstick.
If I were richer and were gonna do a POV style youtube channel I would turn ads off, make my videos better than the rest by the creativity allowed with ads not enabled (atleast this used to be the case????) and use youtube as a loss leader to build other social platforms like instagram.
Then I would choose all of the high paying, ethical affiliate offers and punt them through social media. And depending on my niche I could monetise it with my own product etc.
Youtube doesn't seem to even pay out much anymore, it doesn't seem worth the point on its own.

No I know its financed I am talking about a waste of 2000PCM (or whatever) when the asset is basically parked no doubt depreciating and costing to insure etc. As a business that's not a great idea?
It's probably not depreciating if it isn't being used and is specced properly. Not saying it is appreciating but it might be even. nyxster said:
I was thinking of doing a YT channel 'ride-on lawnmower lifestyle'
episode 1 - buying a lawnmower WITH CASH!
episode 2 - getting the mower wrapped! AMAZEBALLS YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED NEXT!
episode 3 - larini exhaust on the mower. OMG WHAT!
episode 4 - i striped this MILFS lawn! (clickbait, possible sequel on pornhub)
episode 5 - i crashed the mower into the pool! (more clickbait, it was a paddling pool)
episode 6 - should i get a new mower? (clickbait, theres still 24 lease payments to go)
episode 7 - I took the mower to Dubai! (clickbait, theres no actual grass in dubai because i'm in an apartment)
episode 8 - mower gold digger prank gone sexual! (clickbait bs, i'm cleaning the patio)
episode 9 - getting the mower detailed! OMG I NEARLY DIED.
episode 10 - cutting the lawn (finally.) GONE SEXUAL.
episode 11 - Trimming her patch! (bird in a bikini, getting desperate now)
episode 12 - OMG I'M BUYING A LAMBORGHINI!!
etc.
Brilliant! So true. episode 1 - buying a lawnmower WITH CASH!

For the record I think the world is a better place with these channels in it.
I know it helps pass my 12 hour night shifts.
My view on them is that generally they're all from "family money" type backgrounds, despite Seb etc denying any help off mum or dad.
Even if they do get help, good for them. If my parents were minted and happy to fund me having fun then why not.
It's pot luck what we are born into. There'll always be someone with more than you, but also someone with less.
I enjoy what I've got and don't get jealous. In fact I look on in awe at the fun these lads have.
Anyway my thoughts -
Schmee - Irritating voice but decent enough vids. Don't watch him much now as he's "sold out" a bit but anyway..
Seb D - Pleasant enough and lives in Monaco so kudos. Doing well and fair play to him.
SOL Paul W - To be fair he's carved his career from nothing but mobile phone videos early on, so again fair play to him.
Sam STG - Bit geeky but I like his style. Probably second fave you tuber.
MR JWW - Without going all fan boy, Mr JWW is my favourite tuber. Slick videos with funky tunes, great cars and he gives a good insight into the hotels he's staying in etc.
Very nice life he has and he's pretty cool. I'm a married heterosexual male but must admit I think he's a right cool f*cker.
God knows what these guys would be like if you met them out and about, but I'm happy enough watching their vids.
I'd expect they'd stop for a quick few words.
I think they live lives most petrolheads would like to live so good for them...
and as I've said they help pass lots of my time at work.
Let's face it if we didn't have youtubers or mobile internet we'd still only have magazines which were as biased and payrolled by their advertisers/partners as any YouTuber is and magazine content is generally a lot more boring.
Anyway just my 2p.
PS. salomondrin not bad but a bit Americanised, which is understandable since he's in America.

This guy should be suitable viewing for the PH shed crowd. He vlogs purchasing a SL55 AMG for bargain bin money then DIY fixing everything on the cheap. For those that complain about the SC guys not talking about costs he does great breakdowns of how much merc dealer quoted vs how much he got it fixed for. What's great about this kind of vlog is it breaks a lot of the myth/fear about these kind of projects and isn't just all about walking into a dealership and getting the amex black card out. A kind of wheeler dealers DIY vlog.

you're not wrong, I've lost count of the amount of tumes a chain-watched youtube series has left me going to bed at 4am - certainly makes a nice break from wasting the wee hours reading the NP&E nightshift nutters trying to out-racist each other - there is some surprisingly addictive viewing on there, I spent an entire night watching a curiously entertaining chap do a let's play on the London underground simulator. WTF went wrong with conventional TV that makes watching a brummie drive a pretend tube train more entertaining than multi-million pound budgeted dramas eh.For the record I think the world is a better place with these channels in it.

I have to say I like/mildly dislike TGE's passion and seemingly lack of knowledge on his cars.
"oohhh hang on I think this car comes with another steering wheel, ohh yess here it is in the boot" brilliant ! love that don't care/not sure attitude. Equally I'm jealous as hell you luck.......bloke.
keep the short snappy vid's coming.

In fairness it was a genuine surprise that there was a large box in the boot containing a DIY steering wheel and fascia panel.
I do love cars, & enjoy a nerd over the details, it's just me being me with a camera shoved in my face.
