Interesting that a couple of posts from earlier today seem to have "disappeared" from this thread
Did they say anything particularly interesting or just offensive?

Maybe PH should have a thread going "Vlogger of the week" - where they highlight one (or even more) upcoming Vloggers with some interesting new comment. Would be great to see (and be more aware of) the variety out there

also, none of them can actually drive
Leaving aside the fact that what you have stated may be untrue, I would go on to say: What does it matter if they aren't driving gods?

I'm not a driving god by any stretch of the imagination yet I absolutely enjoy my car collection, motorbikes, and everything else I own that is motorised.

Take Schmee for example, he generally enthuses about the looks, the design, the details, the noise, the acceleration, the interior, the comfort, etc, most of the things I would care about.

Not everyone wants a supercar or sports car to rag round a track. I would suggest that most are like me and just want to enjoy a few A-road and motorway blasts, and spend the rest of the time posing around town, rendering full on reviews of the sheer performance and handling fairly redundant.

Him and JWW provide a great counterpoint.
Always watch everything they do.
In depth but more ordinary content and very high quality vs bubble gum hyper mega stuff filmed with some quality/enthusiasm

But Mr JWW is a case in point for me of what I was saying earlier. Guy gets "embedded" in the Aston Martin Racing team at Le Mans. Does a very nice video but it finishes at 3am!!!!!!!!

What happened to the next 12 hours? One of the most exciting moments in Aston Martin's racing history for almost 60 years! But from Mr JWW Not a sausage.

Now I assume he wasn't asleep for it, so was he just not that bothered? Or had he already disappeared off for another sponsorship opportunity? I'm guessing the latter

Hugely disappointing and i struggle to believe a true petrolhead would have done that.

This is a lot of the feedback I receive in person; that people see my usage of the cars in a similar way to how they would use them too; nice road drive, maybe an occasional track day, but mostly just what it's like inside-out to live with.

I do however find the debate about what dictates "can drive" quite interesting.

As a general wider question, how does one calculate that? What is the metric on which it is based?

I do have an image for diving "like a granny" but that's mostly because of the Pistonheads police and as soon as I do anything actually interesting it causes trouble and backlash so I keep it clean on camera. I had a test drive in an F12tdf recently in Italy, no cameras rolling, that was more fun biggrin

I'd love a bit of feedback on this one, it comes up a lot in comments but I've been just seconds from the lap times of proper racing drivers in the TT Cup and MINI Challenge, and set a pretty nice time myself in my LT at Spa (2:42). In my honest opinion, I don't think the vast majority of owners of a 675LT would be going around that quickly, albeit obviously some will certainly be much faster. When it comes down to driving on the road, does driving fast and with illegal speed really dictate being a driving God? Did it somewhere become cool to show-off with self-incriminating footage?

I was at Goodwood in a professional capacity over the weekend, did a few Facebook Live broadcasts from around the place, got around 9-10,000 people viewing live on average which was pretty cool.

Anyway, it was interesting to meet a couple of young (22ish) blokes who are starting a channel soon that focuses on 'normal' cars as was suggested in here a few pages back.

I'm not sure how it'll do to be honest as the 'wow' factor isn't really there so will you get repeat viewers? Though it worked for SaabKyle, his deadpan reviews of ordinary cars seemed to be something that was missing from YT. Maybe these new guys will do similarly well.
I think theres an audience out there for anything

Regular Cars reviews some dull machines and some ropey ones too and he does it with great style. They're much more interesting watches than yet another video fawning over a super car or another review where the reviewer is clearly too meek to put his opinions down because of who lent them the car.

Mighty Car Mods is another....they seem to only deal with ropey old JDM stuff and doing stuff on the cheap. Its a good watch.

SavageGeese must have the best produced and shot review videos going and I like his dead pan style and in-depth discussions in the garage..... hardly has any subs though! He should really have more
At the risk of getting the comment removed as promotion I would add a channel I run with a few mates into the mix - Guys That Drive

We cover everything from sheds to supercars (if we can get our hands on them!)

Our hero series takes longer to edit and is much more polished compared with our vlog stuff. But our angle is essentially relatable viewing for the ordinary car guy/ girl. Its still early days but starting to pick up a bit recently

Indeed. I suspect people who say that mean "doesn't do drifts around corners".

Are you allowed to post links to your own material as long as Pistonheads deem you to be an idiot and therefore not a threat to them in the long run?

^ This. It goes to show you that it's about clicks and free invites rather than the cars or racing. I think all the UK yootoobers went to Lemans but I don't recall any of them being there at the finish. What a waste of a free ticket.

I'd be up for a YouTuber lap time show down in the same car, if someone else wants to pay for it. Maybe the PH gods will sponsor us. :P

To be fair, in some of his videos he does say he's putting the camera away to actually go enjoy and actually experience whatever event he is at. I haven't watched the Le Mans video yet so don't know what its about.

Cough... I've been there at the finish each of the last 3 years! Amusingly I've never been with a team that didn't win. 2015 with Corvette (GTE), 2016 with Ford (GTE), 2017 with Porsche (LMP1).

I still find it staggering that people complain so much about free content. You're not forced to watch it, you're not paying for it.

If you don't like it, don't watch it!

In fairness not sure if you meant me too, but I was there until early hours of am, then went back and was there at the end in a grandstand; in a predominantly british crowd while the Aston drama was unfolding. Atomosphere was brilliant. Didn't bother with a fully focussed Le Mans video as wanted to actually enjoy my first time at Le Mans.
Those on my Snapchat can verify these claims haha

I've been involved in one. Some fairly big youtubers and car journos on that list. And Keanu Reeves.

Dude, give up. The only way you're gonna impress the PH heroes is with heel and toe videos. You need a manually aspirated natural gearbox as well.

Come on, you know this better than us, there's free and then there's free.

All of the Vloggers on this thread get paid, some more, some less, from advertisers, from Youtube clicks and from other forms of endorsement. That money derives from them being able to attract the eyes and time of the general public (ie me). ITV is a 'free' TV station but then its not really is it, it works by persuading us to "spend" our time connecting with their advertising. Likewise, if I give a marketing company my contact details and list of interests, it doesn't cost me anything, but its worth something to them. Trade isn't purely in cash

But I digress. My analogy for Mr JWW and his Le Mans video is this - ITV say they're going to screen the World Cup. They get you to watch the advertising before the first half, you watch the first 45 mins, they then show you some more advertising at half-time. And then they don't bother screening the second half of the game. Can you imagine the outrage?

Now of course I'm not 'outraged' at his video, I don't read the Daily Mail. More mildly irritated (particularly as the first half was good). I'd rather he followed the TGE example and said "I'm just going to enjoy this" and not promote it, than click-bait me into watching something half-baked.

It's more by way of constructive criticism than anything else. But I've not watched another of his videos since....
