Just had a quick gander at the chap's channel...

How to be a successful YouTuber for the masses.
  • Make sure every video is at least 10 minutes long, becacuse YouTube algorithms.
  • CAPITAL LETTERS ATTRACT SIMPLE AUDIENCE! (See classified ads on eBay for council cars for reference)
  • Suggest that you might die in the video, or that your activities may be frowned upon by the law.
  • Emojis are so last year, use your own face to replicate them instead
  • Punctuation is important, remember to use exclamation and question marks as much as possible.

Only jesting....I can't knock the guy really, these tactics really do pull the numbers in. Could never imagine doing it myself, "IS THIS THE WORLD'S RUSTIEST 17 YEAR OLD HONDA??!!" doesn't quite have the same ring to it smile

Although, I am super jealous about this one! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJZGvC8K3_E

I wish Dunlop would invite me to shred some of their tyres in a GT3. hehe

Archie is a perpetual taint.

Great analysis Danny, and so spot on with the 'attracting simple audience' remark. My first comment on this thread remarked that the relationship between vlogger and viewer was that the vloggers (particularly SOL, Archie and Seb) constantly spout out simple content because they know who the majority of their viewers are.

You certainly seem to have a grudge against them for some reason? Did one of them wrong you somehow?

I already do. You're one of the very few channels that I actually watch each video.

Not quite a Vlogger but has anyone watched Doug DeMuro? He is probably somewhere inbetween a vlogger and a proper car tester as he doesnt do performance testing etc.

I only discovered him at the weekend and quite enjoyed his videos - he does good little segments about the little details and quirks of each car. Particularly enjoyed the ones about the F40/SLR and all of their little details.

Some good videos overall. Definitely worth a watch.

After a promising debut you have rapidly diminished in credibility.

Is there any more simple content than pimping out your sister in a swimsuit to attract teen bedroom w@nkers and the older but nonetheless still one Arnie armed socially inept ?

I was thinking of doing some kind of parody video with my A4, but I don't want it to seem like I'm bashing on the supercar guys out of jealousy or whatever. Or maybe just a general VAG parody. Get some skinny jeans, a snapback and a vape stick, and go make a video.
Or challenge him to a Cadwell showdown biglaugh

Christ. I've always found him immensely annoying and totally unwatchable but that instagram is about as vain and self-obsessed as a person can be. Not a single picture where he isn't posing like a f##king nobhead right in the middle of the shot :/

I've had this same idea with a few friends, renting cheap cars and ragging them for the weekend. Most would put out the resulting content for free but I wonder what would happen if someone did put it up behind a pay wall on YouTube?

No one has yet tried this within the small automotive niche I watch (ignoring superspeedersrob's past DVD collection). Video's like Archie's Dunlop/ GT3 video or a road trip from Joe Achilles/Shmee150 might be worth a few quid though?

Not all of the vlogger content would work but I can see it working for the higher end videos. Wonder if it pays well? Anyone have any background info on when /DRIVE tried this out?

STG, take a bow.

His Californian vlogs are out of this world, which is why I'm on his back about dropping his standards just for the sake of uploading. Maybe I'm too harsh on him, because he is a legitimately talented guy.

The 250 TR video in particular was a highlight. Sinatra was a nice touch!

I couldn't agree more.

I stopped watching a lot of these vloggers a while back due to the complete lack of originality and the shear amount of cringe in each video - Seb,Sol and Archie being the main culprits......just tying their names is infuriating. Cretins.

One of STG's Californian vlogs popped up as a recommendation a few days ago so gave it a watch. He, at the moment, is way ahead of all the others in regards to production, content, presenting style and originality.

Not quite on the same content but Salomondrin did try with an "uncensored" version of Banging Gears, I recall you could watch it earlier aswell as the free version was run out over a few weeks/episodes, no idea how successful it was.... although he hasn't done anymore since he put it out 10 months ago so maybe that says it all

Completely agree.

I'm going to say something which will probably go against the conventional wisdom. STG is streets ahead of the next best vlogger, Mr JWW. James as a person seems like a pretty nice guy, and his content is mostly good, but when STG gets his creative juices flowing, he wipes the floor with the lot of them.

I remember last October when he uploaded daily as a part of VlogAngeles. It was great to see such great car-related content, and content that was never repetitive. He set such a high standard over in the States, that it was impossible to replicate in the general dreariness that is the weather of the United Kingdom.

I find it baffling that he has less than 300,000 subscribers, while lesser vloggers have substantially more. It's probably because he doesn't use caps lock, exclamation points and a facial expression reminiscent of a hooker about to give fellatio in his thumbnails.
