If you want a cliche car vlog, James has you covered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8gZCxtbZn4 (and it's great)

Most link what they use in the youtube desc.

Mostly Go Pros for internal and attached to cars, a lot of them seem to like the 5 session, but I prefer the 5 black as you can swap the battery.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 is the 4k camera of choice at the moment, but it's big and expensive.

Sam uses a Panasonic DC-GH5LEB-K and HC-VXF990EBK for out of car.

The Sony point and shoots are epic, and the A7S MkII is unreal but the auto focus is too slow.

Pretty sure James uses some sort of Sony handycam too, at least he did last time I was on a trip with him, and Paul now uses a Canon 80D which is quite clear from his vlogs, as there's no inbody IS like the other cameras mentioned.

Most use Apple Final Cut Pro for speed.

The guys who put more work into their productions tend to end up on Adobe Premiere and AfterEffects (sweeping generalisation)

It's possible to make vlogs with iPhones. Content is king, not how much money you spend on gear.

Well I work 11am 9pm 11 days on and 3 off luckily I do a lot of driving though so like today I'm in my gti I've covered 30k miles in this in 18 month so If I was given a 720s for 2 month over the 3200 miles it would have been on some lovely adventures! Today I'm off Whitby! Those are proper driving roads I wanna see vids like that tbh mate, you get to seriously know a car on a road trip it's quirks all it's little things pootling around with the odd blast isn't an ownership experience I would personally enjoy! Tbh this makes me want to buy a decent camera myself as me and my gti have had some epic moments
What you're explaining in this thread is that TGE's channel is not for you. You probably have more chance getting the content you want by finding someone else who does the stuff you like viewing, rather than trying to change TGE's behaviour.

The 720s I won't make a penny on; coupled with finance interest, opportunity cost of the cash, insurance, storage and ppf costs - hardly a business. In fact it may even go below list to a dealer. Which is fine by me as I've been able to experience, (IMO) one of the best cars ever made. Yes my Youtube probably benefitted, but you could probably buy a book of stamps with the tangible benefit from the purchase of the 720s alone.
I knew stamps were expensive these days but didn't quite realise how expensive wink

All of you guys complaining about tge not using his car properly forget one thing: It´s his car. He´s putting it out on social media to share it with us, if you don´t like it, don´t watch it.

I use his little brother, the G7. Works well for me smile (and about 1/4 the price of the GH5)

I was speaking to Misha the other night who does his VLOGs from the Nurburgring. I was astounded to find out he does all his recording on his Samsung S8. Even uses the inbuilt microphone! A smartphone and a gimbal is quite a nice setup I guess.

It would seem content is king.

That's my theory for sure.

If the content is ace, then it just doesn't matter what you film it on so long as it isn't a potato! If you can keep it to an adequate quality level and edit in a way that doesn't genuinely upset the viewer (fast cuts, bad audio etc) then it's all about the content.

The Casey Neistat style is lovely with over the top glamour scenes, but it doesn't for one moment bring in more viewers and in fact it often creates drops in the live audience retention - most of the biggest YouTubers don't do that for a reason.

It's a balance of %age work input of what you could do, versus the %age of the audience that will be happy with it. The size of the audience who want the very best only represent a tiny amount of the total potential audience.

On the S8 subject, watch this. It's impressive

behind the scenes

I do feel like they cheated a little!

Edit, you also touched on a very important point. Audio. Why don't more vloggers put a mic on? £80 for a good one, and it saves all the crap the Go Pros mics pick up.

You, and Lee, club together and buy your own 720S, drive it round the Alps/Dolomites for weeks at a time and produce high end content with it for Youtube, I'll watch, subscribe & critique you on here. Deal?

See danny I've watched your YouTube since you started n put vids on corsa c and I've always liked yours as they are more raw! You're getting the cars you've got for you and you enjoy them the m3 content has been good so far and I read your thread on here!

Although only negative I had towards you is I've met you a couple of times and we were on corsa c, so I sent you a fb friend request as we have a lot of mutual friends you pied me off and acted abit arrogant but the vids you do have been good so far so keep them up

Good question!

GoPros are particularly bad, which is why I don't use them. The video quality on Actioncams might be a touch less good in low light (not that I film car videos in the dark), but the audio is a million times better.

I have played a little recently with using mics for audio but found myself repeatedly running into issues with syncing them up, or just failing to record correctly in the first place. When you are vlogging you are effectively the director, presenter, lighting guy, sound guy, and you're going to be the editor too - its a lot to think about!

Vlogging is also quite impulsive, and therefore you want the freedom to just hit REC and start; which isn't possible wearing lapel mics, having extra gear to start, and then to process and upload on a daily basis.

My behaviour has been an unchangeable source of concern since primary school to be honest.
