I think we will see something bigger from Nico in the next year or two. I think his youtube stuff is just testing the waters.

Anyone watched SOL's video with Salomondrin?

I haven't watched SOL for months now as his content has been so dull, which is sad to see as i've been subscribed since he was looking for his first R8 which at the time was very different to other content on YT and I was hooked however since id say probably this time last year (maybe even before) his content seems too similar and he seems to have been stagnant.

When I saw a video with what I think are the 2 kings of car clickbait, I was expecting to be disappointed but actually really enjoyed it. Would recommend

Now Sam has his next daily (718) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNhYDxmcgBE and the Ferrari is in the garage, it will be interesting to see where he takes his content.

Same here. Started watching when he had his "my first supercar" series.

Might be my favourite Shmee video ever. Please get more professionals to explain their job.

Agree with you, it will be interesting to see where it goes. I can't see the Cayman S having the same viewer "pull" as the 360, maybe it's the other way around...

I like STG's stuff, I think the quality of the content is excellent. I don't understand the latest purchases though, I thought he sold the Mclaren and the Fiat because he'd stretched himself too far financially and in this latest video he says he's stretched himself again to buy the Cayman. Did I get that wrong? smile

Personally think he made the wrong choice. Something like an S3, TTRS, Golf R, or S4 would have been much more popular with people than the 718. You only need to look at Archie Hamilton and his RS3 videos to see that.

Combined value of the Mac and Fiat (both financed) is about £160k, so with the 360 at what, £80k I think he's probably paying less than before especially as the Ferrari is likely to not lose much.

I think the 718 he's bought is a cracker. If I was his age I would take it over anything VAG related.

STG's 718 is a very interesting one. Loads of talk on the porsche already, discussing if 718 could be a great daily and can actually replace former flat 6. It will be good to watch his use basically, considering he will be using mainly in central London. I was hoping he would get an air-cooled 993 or 964 as a semi daily after all of his classic car videos but 360 would definitely create some interesting content too! bowtie

I have watched a couple of Nico's videos and in my opinion he does not come across in a natural and engaging way at the moment. Plus I am not sure what the point of his channel is. Yes his USP is that he is the current F1 world champion but I am not sure that is enough
I bet if you looked at anyone’s first few attempts they would look awful. I have a small channel )not car related), and if I watch the first few videos back they make me cringe slightly

David Coulthard was awful when he first stepped in front of the camera. Now he's got the confidence needed he appears way more polished. I imagine it's much the same? I'm sure someone earlier in this thread was going to show us all how easy it is?

Yep. Try this for cringe. Maybe he'll get better.

I completely agree, he also comes across as knowing very little about cars.

I get the feeling he knows F1 better than everyone but when it comes to any other topic he is absolutely clueless. If his channel focused on F1 I think it would fly, if he carries on doing forced videos which clearly have 10s i of people behind them, filming, editing, uploading, script writing, replying to comments, writing the description etc.... I don't think it's going to do very well at all.

I got the same vibe from him. He didn't seem like he knew too much about the GTR or supercars in general but to be fair to him he did mention he's into classic cars.

Tim, have you ever attempted any sort of A/B / Split testing on the youtube thumbnail image performance?

It would be incredibly difficult to do accurately, but you can swap the thumbnail post upload.

I always feel like I'm swinging in the dark a bit when picking a thumb! (guess what I'm doing today hehe)

Regardless of whether a few 'petrolheads' don't absolutely love it.

I was never going to have a 100% car channel anyway. Ahoyhoy. Bless up. Etc
Where was my invite? ha

You should have got one of those kiddy Lambo cars and driven it round the resort. That should have kept the PH mob happy.
