Yeah that’s great stuff. The fact that they each produced one aspect really worked too, no duplication like we had with Monaco.
Those three have the kind of chemistry that is sorely lacking in new top gear. I see on Twitter people have been asking Netflix. That would be awesome.

Yes, that’s why I wrote it. I didn’t just mash my head against the keyboard and that came out.
Probably best they keep you away from the scriptwriting with that sort of gem. You’re no Richard Porter are you ? We all have our own opinions but frankly I’m amazed that anybody considers that these three could collectively make the leap to mainstream 1 hour long broadcast TV. An awful lot of deficiencies would be exposed I suspect.

I think a 30 min show is doable, you never know they might surprise you.
They've been churning out pretty good 15-20 minute videos for a year or two nearly every other day...each.10 x 30 min/45 min/ 1hr shows... piece of cake.
the 3 of them combined? with a dedicated production/film crew?
Absolute piece of cake.
Have you seen the cost of a small production company for a small shoot?
I work in the industry from time to time and a decent skilled people it can be very expensive.
There is one guy I work with regularly and he is known in the industry as "5 grand a day Andy". Its not a joke either.
These Vloggers have a great little niche and can do things at low cost for good return but if you even tried to go pro it would probably not work out as a good business move at the moment.
Not saying it would never work but you would need someone to front several tens of thousands of pounds production budget vs their current budget which is probably <£500 per video.
I think Chris Harris ran into this issue when they started to do the really decent quality stuff the production costs jumped from a few hundred to a few thousand in the blink of an eye and he was using mates rates IIRC.

It's really not though. And if the Twitterati got their way, Netflix pay the bill.
That's what I was getting at...
for Sam, James and Paul to make the leap on their own...the ideas are still there, but granted the money....hmm not so much

Don't disagree with costs, I've been around film and TV quite a bit too.I work in the industry from time to time and a decent skilled people it can be very expensive.

I guess my point was, even if they'd taken one extra guy with them to operate an A7S mkII on a Ronin mobile to capture and fly drones for extra shots, the story would piece together in a nicer way. My camera guy is £250/day, but I'm sure there are many other young, talented camera guys which would go along for free. I've even offered! The logic was "once you start upping your production quality for one video, people expect it all the time, and there isn't time for that normally".
Tims view on the above would be interesting.
So they have demonstrated they have the presenting skills to be on broadcast tv. But their programme would have to be pretty successful for them to be better off than they are right now. The extraordinary success of TG isn't going to be replicated any time soon. Why would they want to move to broadcast tv?

100% this. You need to be in a rhythm with a regular process so it runs as a smooth ship. Trying out new things not only creates that expectation but it also massively increases the potential for error, delay or other issues.Tims view on the above would be interesting.
I've regularly thought about, and been offered much higher level production services than I use, yet I choose to keep it simple and naturally, mostly because it's an awful lot more engaging for the audience if it's shot in a very real style rather than over edited. For a long time I've believed that you could post a professional shot alongside a mobile phone shot on Instagram, and most of the time the amateur one would receive more likes. The audience feels more engaged with something that they could replicate or do themselves.

Had this exact discussion with carthrottle about instagram earlier this week. The evidence seems to back up these beliefs which I don't think I'll ever understand waremark said:

Is this true? The stats that people post on here every now and then seem to suggest that very few YT'ers are making serious money from it (Shmee and Doug DeMuro notwithstanding), compared to the amount that Amazon Prime or Netflix could chuck at them if they so chose.jon- said:
