Maybe it’s you Dave .......
Given the stuff we see people come out with in this thread, you really don't see how what you wrote might not be taken to mean what you intended?
You cannot punish the few for the crimes of the many Dave.

Assumption without clarification is a crime in itself. I find you guilty and sentence you to 2 weeks suspension from the role as my side kick. Hand over the mask.

I do wonder who'll be first. It doesn't take a genius to work out actual road speeds from gearshifts and engine RPM, plus any sort of sideways action is understandably a no in the eyes of the BIB.

There's been a couple videos now where TGE makes reference to AH being a 'racing driver', something AH himself has been quick to dismiss with comments like 'former' or some mumbling to get past that topic as quickly as possible. Don't follow the guy but why does he seemingly dislike the label so much?

Danny, I'm an old fart (52) and watch only a few Youtubers including you, Adam and Car Throttle (and Lee Lockwood for a laugh, it's my guilty secret).

Your latest one with you just working on the Audi was excellent. Not into drifting but still watch and also your track days.

Have you seen there's a no timing ban at the Nurburg? You can't mention times or have timing equipment.

Misha Charoudin has done a pretty comprehensive video on it.

And bin Facebook and create new account just for 'real' friends!
Thanks bud, PHer to PHer it's nice to know similar minds are finding what I'm doing interesting!

Yeah aware of the timing ban, pretty gash but had to happen. Far too many people go just to time themselves, me included, rather than having fun!

s'a good question....
he's mentioned in previous vids that's he's still keen to get a drive somewhere...
If I were him I'd be proving my skill via youtube....and doing what a lot of his audience ask for...in stead of the kind of childish stuff he does now...

@ DannyDC2 what i'd like to see on your channel would be something like you did with that mr2 but comparison of fwd hot hatches ( because nobody else does anything with fwd)

Maybe a clio 182 , civic and maybe a puma chucked in and then just compare there stength's/weakness .
Are you referring to the MR2 vs S2000 video? I had fun making that, but didn't really have fun editing/uploading it. Driving cars fast on the road whilst filming yourself isn't very wise IMO, I have a bad feeling its going to catch up with me one day.

I see loads of YouTubers doing it, Matt Farrah's channel is basically just that, but maybe they can get away with it over there. One of my pals at work knows someone who had their house raided by the police for video evidence relating to them uploading motorcycle runs to YouTube. They were lairy, and a life was lost which sprung the investigation, but still, it's worrying.

You could say, just do it on track then, but that would be an expensive day out if we're comparing say 3 cars. Wouldn't be able to do it justice myself. Fifth Gear have a production team and funding from advertisers, I have 2 GoPros, a camera, and a 5 year old Macbook.

For reference, the MR2 vs S2000 video took a few hours to make, probably 6 or so to edit, and has pulled 31k views. $88 is the estimated revenue. Wouldn't even cover one of the cars to get there.

The editing time must be a nightmare to put these together .

Re speed surely for the hot hatches it's the handling not speed , which of them you can take around those b roads barely ever braking yet not risking your license either .

Even a comparison with just a clio on track would be a good watch especially with your clio history .

I wonder how many views a video of me putting cigarettes out on Archie would get. It’d be more entertaining than cold starting his R8 for the umpteenth time .

The last sentence should be expanded into a youtube video in itself and shown to all aspiring 16 year old groupies that want their own "channel". Straight through the smoke and mirrors and the B/S spouted by so many of these youtube guys about how they started XYZ when they were 12 in their bedroom and have multiple other businesses that they just don't feel like talking about right now etc etc.

The idea that all youtube roads are paved with gold should be dispelled from the minds of these kids.

As for the filming, I am minded to agree. I am amazed by what I have seen of some of the driving, the photos on instagram clear as day using a phone whilst driving etc. I am amazed the police haven't had a field day already to be honest.

By and large I am finding all these videos more and more cringe inducing. The only thing that evokes more of a cringe is beefmeisters posts on this thread. the whole scene is getting to a point where I feel embarrassed for these people. To each their own.

All that, of course, compounded by the fact there are a whole lot more other cars running about with dashcams these days.

I could make it happen quite easily I reckon. One of my pals has just got a nice 182, I have thought of doing a video on them since I always big them up.

The main issue is time, especially with winter setting in. Monday-Friday daylight I'm at work (browsing PH), and on the weekends I just haven't been arsed to give up my time to do those things lately. I've been far more interested in working on the cars rather than filming myself working on them.

For example, the Audi video you mentioned. I probably could have got it all done in a few hours if I wasn't pissing around with a camera half the time. Instead it was spread across 2 days and around 9 hours. 9 hours to change 2 drive shafts, a tie rod end, and service a car. smile

I have to say though, it's had way more engagement than I expected. Over a 100 comments, and it's only been on there since 10pm last night. Some people have chosen to message me on social media with their thoughts on the issues I'm having with the car, rather than commenting on the video, which I can't help but be annoyed at. I know these people are just wanting to help, but that's what the comment section is for. The information should be shared to all, through the comments on YouTube. Messages sent directly just ooze with cringe. Pls staph if you're reading this.

On this subject, Monky London surprised me with some of the driving and drifting he has filmed on the roads. Entertaining to watch and I enjoy his channel, but I'm surprised he hasn't had any trouble yet.

He has reviewed a few friends of mine cars, they didn't seem too fussed about what he got up to in them.

Yeah I even mentioned this too him, I'm relatively close to Toby in the grand scheme of social media friends, but when I bought it up to him it was greeted with a real life view from him that one day it could catch up with him too.

This is one of my worries, I mean we all love cars and I take great joy out of making videos around them & of them, but a few video features of cars Ive done with no driving in them have been greeted by huge negativity that people didn't get to see the car driving, even when I explained that in one of them the car had no MOT. We are not taking an car that would be considered illegal out on the road then posting video evidence on a public website.

theres been a few videos we're the vtec limiter bash may have appeared but I do try to be as good as possible. I even blur the speedo when we're not speeding most of the time just to wind the viewers up who care about those things.
One guy Left a comment, Dm'd me on youtube then messaged me on instagram to tell me how dangerous it is. we didn't actually break the speed limit which i found quite amusing. little things in life.

Mmm, people don't realise how much time it adds to film a "normal" task. I've often helped a friend out with stuff just on the basis that it speeds up the job from that side of things.

Hah! You might be getting one from me at some point regarding something completely unrelated to your YouTube, so I guess you'll just have to cringe and bear it!

That's the beauty of his car reviews and the "John" persona as a whole - However it does sometimes give me anxiety just watching! I remember one review about 6 months ago he bombs it past a GATSO on a dual carriageway, it didn't seem to flash so he probably knew it wasn't active but still... fk that!

It must be said ML is probably my favourite YouTuber when he's doing the reviews, I personally don't enjoy drifting and maintenance videos which he seems to do 90% of the time now. He needs a new graphic designer for the merch too as it's awful, looks like it belongs on Preston market laugh

Listen fella, I'm trying my absolute hardest to be nice and let this be about the discussion in the title. You making spurious comments like that is neither required, nor appreciated. If you'd like to discuss this with me elsewhere feel free to email me using the PH email function. If not, put your big boy pants on and shut the fk up.

Just sayin.
For purposes of clarity: I don’t hate him and enjoyed his previous videos and the last month or two I spend about a minute total seeing what’s in them and skipping through them.

Archie was a pro racing driver and raced at Le Mans etc, if you want to know more listen to Seen Through Glasses podcast with him (https://soundcloud.com/seenthroughglass/episode-7-archie-hamilton-racing)

But basically he couldn't get anymore sponsors and the seasons became too expensive to fund so he stopped racing to do youtube having met some youtubers, I believe Shmee and Paul Wallace at an event.

He seems to shy away from it because after naming his channel etc "Archie Hamilton Racing" he infact no longer does any kind of racing and some might see him as a racing driver failure...or at least that's what TGE et al are getting at. But not in a harsh way.

Reading between the lines of clickbait and wraps I think Archie off youtube is really a good bloke. But for him, ultimately, youtube is purely a business and always has been and always will be and thats why the Archie character as seen online is a complete wally.

I've given him a bit of stick in comments (although nothing I would call malicious) but agree he's certainly not unpleasant in his persona. Unfortunately, a good few vloggers come across as entitled cockwombles and I guess it's easy to tar them all with the same brush. It's world that also appears to have a good few ''hangers on''.
