Btw shmee watched your vid on the X3 last night what u reckon to them? I’m swapping my car in 18 month was looking at a macan gts or rs3 but rs3 will probably get nicked and macan works out at 80k for my spec but a fully loaded x3 m40i is 58k after discount what do u honestly reckon to them? Any good? And is as quick as the rs3 apparently just not as good on the twisties
No question BMW are doing good things on the tech/comfort side, looks I'm not so sure about though. I've not driven the M40i variant, only the diesels so can't hugely comment - I've not driven an M140i/M240i either, for some unknown reason.

I know you love your statistical analysis Tim - do you see any pattern as to which Nations like a particular video - for example is there a particular video that is attracting in the Indian guys? Or do you think the Mercedes appeals more to the Indian sub-continent than any of the other cars you've owned?
To be honest I've never tried to look into that route, but having a quick search right now it seems that the views from India seem to come massively more on older, viral videos as opposed to the new uploads. I'll keep my eyes peeled for further tidbits I can get out of it.

Just out of interest Tim jetting all over the world does this play havoc in your personal life especially if married or partnered up? If you’re single how do you envisage the channel to go if you do meet someone as obviously there has to be five and take in busy schedules

I see mr jww touched on this and said his wife mostly went with him on his adventures
I'm not going to pretend it's easy but then it comes down to stage of life; I'm two years with my partner and we figure that we're together about 35-40% of the nights of the year - basically any night I'm not off filming something and then quite often at weekends in places around the world. She has her own 50-hour a week job and good career so is busy enough too which makes it trickier.

MrJWW and his wife work very closely so they are travelling together nearly all the time and they do a very tidy job of it but I do not fancy going anywhere close to mixing work and relationships like that - it would be a recipe for disaster. Similarly you might have spotted that STG went silent for 10 days or so over Xmas and New Year, and that's obviously a business consideration of a relationship. Going forward, for me obviously personal life becomes more and more important though, I'm not getting any younger hey! How exactly it shapes, who knows...

I don't know that they're a scam but they all seem a bit incestuous of late. There appears to be a core group where they repeatedly appear on each others channels, cover the same cars and massage each others ego for a bit.
I think it's too much too, eventually it's actually detrimental as sharing the identical audience means you receive fewer views as the audience is split between the channels.

Not sure it's about flipping here, market is falling hard on everything. It's more likely that Tony did TGE a favour and took the allocation as Tom was probably a) not looking to sell the Vent S yet and b) looking at a giant hit (and possibly negative equity) if he did.

I had kind of assumed that such order arrangements were similarly "underwritten", if you like, by having someone to one side who'd be willing to take the car on if you had a change of heart (or financial wherewithal).

I don’t keep up with market pricing. Why did he order it in the first place? So he takes a hit (again) and he gets a speccing video out of it, but forgoes the collection video.

Wonder what his viewing figures would balloon to if a decent looking woman occasionally featured in them

Think the "hot women and car" videos tend to work short-term, but don't make much long-term difference to viewer figures. Clicks will ramp up as car nerds log on for a quick rub, but they soon wise up to the blatant clickbaiting and eventually drift off elsewhere.

The cleverest way to make viewing figures balloon is to get into the "life hacks" game. Decent YT revenues for nerdy males at almost zero cost. For example, Crazy Russian Hacker (CRH) recently posted a McDonald's lunch video in his car using quirky forks and plates and got 2m views with a couple of days. The video probably cost about ~£50 and 1hr to make and brought in perhaps £5-10k of cold, hard cash.

SOL's big announcement video went live today - https://youtu.be/hv0cMiw8UjY

I've only just started watching it, but there's a lot of negativity about his newfound drifting career in the comments. No doubt it's just the Internet being the Internet.

Anyone else underwhelmed by Paul SoL’s big announcement? Been hyping it for weeks, basically he’s going to learn drifting.

Not entirely sure that’s ‘changing the car game’.

Seen that Paul has been teasing this huge announcement on social media for the last few days, and all that it is is that he's going to learn to drift.

Bit disappointing as there are plenty of channels doing drift videos very well. Can now see it happening.

Yeah - pewdiepie talked about it recently: constantly trying to take it to 'THE NEXT LEVEL' ......'BEST MOST BIGGEST EXCITING YEAR EVER. Whatever, just keep making car stuff and I will watch it. I preferred JWW more in the beginning, his style has changed. It used to be I couldn't watch the video's quick enough now I don't really care. Seen through glass does some really good stuff but I won't watch a video titled ís RS4 better than an RS6'....

Shmee - probably reading this, I like the roadtrip stuff more than walking around shows and at 100k views it seems that many others do too (1 day old video) compared to other videos with much lower viewing numbers.

I've written before about how significant a video's longevity is and striking a balance of content that appeals to the subscribers in the form of road trips while mixing in highly searchable and recommended content to keep a strong backlog and grow that following. For example, a video jumping in a car to go from somewhere to somewhere else is nothing that's particularly unique to YouTube, whereas a first look walkaround of a new model will constantly be a relevant topic for the duration of that car's lifespan.

I try to maintain a couple of content strands as you've probably seen to mix the overall content. Obviously this is all very different from one channel to another but I'm trying to refine my list down to:

GARAGE - speaks for itself; ownership experiences and buying process
REVIEW - normally on a press launch, a good opportunity to be detailed and informative about a product
FIRST LOOK - often just a static walkaround of a brand new car at a motorshow or privately
VLOG - road trips or general life around supercars
FFT - Fuel For Thought pieces, looking in detail to a particular topic
EXPERIENCE - Specific activity or video that's a one-off
VISIT - stop-off at a factory/museum/dealer

I genuinely thought it must be a TV deal. Ah well, I mean if it's something he's wanted to do then good for him. I do wonder what the largely different content will do, invigorate or ostracise his current audience?

Just watched Tim's road trip in the GTR and honestly I enjoy these videos much more compared to car reviews. Reviews are fine but I feel like everyone is doing the same thing, same cars. Speaking of car reviews, Tim any plans to meet up with JCartu again and do a video on his LaF Aperta?
