Are these Vloggers just a scam? SOL or Shmee etc???????
Discussion
Shmee (et al.) since you're youtube expert(s) can you expand on why most moto youtubers feel the need to use the fking chipmunk music so much, as shown in below example video.

None of the car vloggers have ever come up with anything remotely useful or interesting in their so-called reviews and they can't, in my humble opinion, hold a candle to the likes of Catchpole, Bovingdon, Meaden, Metcalfe, Sutcliffe, Bird et al, yet they're afforded just as much seat time in the latest cars cos any publicity is good publicity, right?
So they don't describe how the car handles on the limit? Since most of us aren't driftmeisters, is what Harris can do with a car on track really that relevant? And now compare the amount of exposure they give a car. Last week there were Urus videos from Catchpole (37k views) and from JWW (500 views). And you don't think car buyers watch the vloggers? I certainly know a lot who do - including some of us who post on here.
I know which I would give more seat time to if I was Lambo's PR man.

I'm not questioning their popularity, merely their validity. Why would anyone value some random person on the internet's opinion over their own?And you don't think car buyers watch the vloggers? I certainly know a lot who do - including some of us who post on here.

Your man Mr JWW had a little tit for tat with a real journalist questioning his validity not that long ago. Ideas above his station me thinks.

How do you define a “real” journalist? Why should I trust someone’s opinion more because it’s printed a magazine rather than done by way of a video?https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=2s&v=fdkzKoyJWy4

But settting that aside, if I’m looking to buy a new car I’ll happily take information from a number of sources; it isn’t a case of Vlog or magazine, it’s both. And while I won’t necessary take Mr JWWs word for it when it comes to the handling, it’s nice to be able to hear the car, see it in motion in a video rather than just look at the static images in a glossy.

What was the relevance of the link to Sophie, a lady who isn't one of the car vloggers? JWW was apparently a serial supercar owner and mixed in supercar owning circles before he decided to make vlogging a business. He is the sort of person any petrolhead would chat to about cars. Now he spends all his time driving interesting cars his views are relevant to buyers. The problem the journalists have is that (except Chris Harris who has made it to TG) they have failed to capitalise on the way that people like me keep up with the car world and they are jealous of how much the vloggers make out of it.https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=2s&v=fdkzKoyJWy4

The thing with this is that many vloggers are just advertising boards rather than trustworthy journalists / reviewers. But settting that aside, if I’m looking to buy a new car I’ll happily take information from a number of sources; it isn’t a case of Vlog or magazine, it’s both.
You see on Instagram and elsewhere a photo, taken with a filter, of them posing next to a car with the phrase "Had a great time in (place name) with (@carbrand) testing #model" followed by a couple of emojis. They want to stay on side with brands so they can stick #sp in an Instagram post at a later date.
Better, IMO, to take on the views of professional road-testers and owners rather than influencers, who have their place in the motoring media, but as marketers for the manufacturers rather than critical journalists.

I've been watching Hoonigan channel for a while now.
A nice mix of tech' geek and great production / videography etc.
Won't be for everyone but if you like air cooled 911's, superchargers and ice you're in luck.

I think I can speak on behalf of us all here, we are eagerly awaiting the collection video, dropping at the weekend. Blink982 said:
I certainly don't lump you (Danny) in with the 'other' vloggers. I enjoy your channel and content as it involves cars and driving.
+1Enjoy Adam's channel too. Especially the Japan stuff and cars I probably wouldn't pay much attention to otherwise. Mind you, your channel has had me considering an Integra.

Handbag lady, as good looking as she is, is no more qualified than most of the car vloggers to help the car buying public spec their cars. Apparently she likes red cars, which is nice and I doubt she has wrapped it since collecting it. It would appear she spends the national debt of a South American country on handbags and shoes. I have no idea how she funds this but I would imagine a fair amount is bunged her way to review and her impressionable followers lap up her every word and probably put themselves in debt to mirror her lifestyle. Wasn't there a young woman recently outed for offering to put up a favourable review of a hotel in return for a free stay?
Without full disclosure, a vlogger's "opinion" should be taken with a pinch of salt and used as entertainment only as the majority have zero credibility. A gopro and an ego doesn't suddenly make you an expert in anything.

Not disagreeing- it’s clear that the Vloggers are going to be unduly positive in their reviews (so I treat it with a pinch of salt). But I think the car mags are going the same way (subscribed to Car magazine for 20 years). They get access to interviews with senior people at McLaren or TVR and ‘lo and behold’ there’s a gushing review in the same edition of that company’s latest modelYou see on Instagram and elsewhere a photo, taken with a filter, of them posing next to a car with the phrase "Had a great time in (place name) with (@carbrand) testing #model" followed by a couple of emojis. Maybe that’s the Vloggers fault? The magazines have to be more positive to get the same access that the Vloggers that they compete with get?

Used to be someone with a degree in journalism and/or an apprenticeship or internship. Very few journalists (especially in motoring) simply wake up one morning and decide that's what they are.
What gets me is that the most popular (most views) vloggers are the ones with the best cars. People want to see those supercars being used for everyday things as that makes them more relatable. Take those cars away from those vloggers and they would have very little views. It's not their presenting skill or their knowledge that gets the views, ultimately it's the value of the car. Joe Achilies, would get a lot more views if he drove a 675LT/Speciale etc. TGE would get similar numbers to Joe Achilies now if he 'only' drove an M135i
