RE: Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe: Review
Discussion
I would easily pick this over a M4. And this coming from a life long BMW fan.
BMW have lost their way - my last BM was a E46 330 sport coupe, in my eyes the last good looking BMW. For the outside, and especially the interiors, BMW now are behind the competition. And the demographics of their customers no longer make them exclusive in any shape or form.
Maybe it's being the wrong side of 40, but the C63 coupe just seems far more appealing. You can forgive a couple of interior shortcomings for the sound of the engine. And it looks far better resolved than the standard coupe.

Totally agree with you Aston Addict. There's nothing in the BMW range that I want. That's not unremarkable but for the fact that until July I have owned nothing but BMWs since 1997. I've had access to plenty of other metal, but always owned BMs. BMW have lost their way - my last BM was a E46 330 sport coupe, in my eyes the last good looking BMW. I test drove the M4, M3, and C63 saloon. Whilst I chose something else entirely, the Merc was hugely more desirable than the Ms. It may not be able to 'beat' an M4 on a track, but there aren't that many racetracks along my daily commute or normal life. The performance it does have is much more accessible and the perceived quality of the interior was massively better. It's still been beaten with an ugly stick (ok - styling is subjective and I did own an M135i in the recent past so what do I know), but as a thing to own and enjoy it monstered the BM.
Maybe it's just me (and age), but even brand new BMWs seem 'old'. The external designs age terribly, the interior design is yawn-inducing, and you can only seem to enjoy them whilst thrashing the nuts off of them.
Is it only me that is annoyed by the fact that Mercedes can't be bothered to place the configuration for gearbox etc to the RIGHT of the controller? When driving the car, you can't actually see the selector switches due to them being on the left of the controller. This is the same as the previous S Class which had the flip up keypad for phone etc hinging from the right and therefore designed for left hand drive markets. It later became hinged from the left.
It's just a bit offensive I think for a car of this price to not be configured correctly for right hand drive markets.
Regardless of that and the fact that I used to have a C63 Coupe, I would rather have a C63 507 coupe or a current M4 with MSport exhaust. Just looks a bit big, high and blobby.

It's a trivial thing in context of all the wonderful technology and barnstoming performance, let along the personality of the car, but I just could not live with the ipad stuck randomly on my dashboard.
I can't help feeling the last C63 will be the 'classic', notwithstanding the new one being bigger, better, faster, etc.

Another lifelong M driver here and have to say that really floats my boat which the M3/M4 doesn't.
Anyone else think it sounds like the E92 with the M performance exhaust?
No, because there isn't that induction roar or 8400revs.....the S65 with a decent exhaust is one of the best sounding engines out there, just like its big brother the S85, these turbo cars don't come close. Anyone else think it sounds like the E92 with the M performance exhaust?

What you're not factoring in is the discounts available and the APR on the finance, the M4 is 8-10k cheaper spec for spec than the C63S as an example the C63S specced as your M4 is 84k vs. 74k, the M4 is going to be miles cheaper to rent in the real world. (lets face it that's how they will be sold)
Could anyone expand a little more on that please? About how these will sell in the real world.Edited by Wills2 on Tuesday 10th November 12:36
Do only a few buy outright, do most put some cash down then pay monthly lease over 24 or 36 months?
