I agree. First time an automated car with a sleeping driver kills a young family, there'll be a massive backlash against the technology.
Firstly, it'll be the driver and NOT the car's fault - you're required to still drive your car at this point

Secondly, there won't be a backlash just as people don't stop flying when a plane crashes.

I think we over-estimate our role in driving - the VAST majority of "accidents" are caused by people not paying attention to the road/conditions - something automation can easily fix - hence I suspect accidents will PLUMMET.

The reality is that once automated driving is shown to work/cost-effective, there will be a push to eliminate 'drivers' ASAP - that's what you should be worried about, really.

Yeah, I remember the same thing happened with HGVs - a driver fell asleep, killed someone, and then they banned any vehicle over 3.5 tonnes - that's why you don't see HGVs any more. Exactly the same when the first fatal car accident occurred - cars got banned, never been built since.
You're very poor at resisting. Better to stick to your usual sarky little remarks.

The tosser in the Golf was trying to police the roads, and then pulled out trying to obstruct the Evo.

The Golf driver was out of lane and moved over on the Evo. Golf driver should pay for any damage to the Evo's mirror.

What a prat the 'helmet' cammer is.

Once again we get a knob pointing out everyone else's poor standards when he is either causing them by miss reading the situation or simply riding into avoidable danger.

Then plays the hero at a crash, wonder if he took time to put his undies on over his trousers.

50:50 technically because the overtaking car should have recognised that the gap wasn't big enough (or moved over further).

Of course, it's all really caused by the knob-end in the Golf trying to police the roads and stop people pushing in as he sees it, would love to see some of these twunts picked up for inconsiderate driving or something.

I doubt the idiot will even have learned his lesson. Utter knobhead straddling two lanes and trying to obstruct passing cars.

This is the inevitable with the increase in automation in cars.

But we are much more risk averse than when cars, trucks & planes were embedded in how society functions and of course much more likely to sue. So any driverless car will have to be really quite bombproof before it becomes universally accepted.

Would be nice to have a car that would drive you back form the pub, but I bet that won't be allowed (imagine the headlines in the daily wail)

It's actually me who obliterates her wing mirror, according to her and the witness' I shouldn't have been "pushing in" (its about 250m before a merge in turn) and I owe her a wing mirror, she's getting an estimate from a garage today.

I imagine there is a strong argument for 50 50 as I could've probably stopped in time, might just pay for her wing mirror as the last time I had a non fault accident my insurance sky rocketed.

i feel for you - idiots like the golf driver really are pathetic - they don't understand merge in turn and not only get all offended when they see people they think are 'queue jumping', but some try and stop it like this nob.

damn nice can you have there though smokin

I send the insurance company that video link as I think it will be down wholey to the golf driver. Several cars go though the gap, bigger than yours, and she moved over on you. Deliberately, there was no obstruction, she also does not indicate. It's careless or even dangerous driving, had she done it to a motorbike or cyclist, she could have killed him.

Don't pay up, claim against her and there is the evidence to prove it.

At the very least you should drag it out and make it awkward and annoying for her so she might think twice before doing it next time. Also worth mentioning casually that'll you'll be handing the video over to the police as evidence of inconsiderate driving as it will give her something extra to stew on, even if you don't actually hand it over as I'm sure the police would have zero interest in it.

Absolutely this. Make the inconsiderate smear of ste sweat it out.
