RE: Ford Focus RS: Review
Discussion
Out of interest, how many Golf R's have been sold ? ford seem to be talking the availability situation up to get people ordering but what is typical ?
Howmanyleft says there are about 10,000 Golf R's, some of those will be Mk6's, so perhaps 8,000 and they have been knocking them out of leases for three years or so, so perhaps 4500 isnt perhaps as limited a supply as it may seem, unless of course there is massive demand with people waiting for the Focus ?

Thanks again the pics help loads.
I actually like the blue bolster ST style ones and the hard backs look like they have a bit more padding than the megane RS I test drove so they might be okay.
I didn't realise the hard backs don't adjust for height so a sit in /test drive is now essential for me.
Volumes of Golf R's is a good point as it helps to understand the size of the market. I'm feeling quite happy that if I placed an order at the end of this year having test driven etc (might have to travel to do that) it will be an informed decision
I loved the megane but just found a touch too hard to live with daily with recaros and 19's so with golf clubsport also in the wings this year will be fun

I know it's a 300bhp, 4WD car that has to conform to all the safety regs, but still, 1600kg! That's a fair amount.
To be fair that's including a driver. It's just over 1500kg wet with no driver which is still an awful lot, but not quite so bad. I suppose the question is how much does AWD add in weight, I've wondered with the Mazda 6 MPS before (which is also somewhat of a heffer) but you can't compare the "base" 6 with the MPS as none of the other 6's had AWD or the 2.3T and the MPS has a load of other changes (chassis bracing, bodykit etc) as far as I can tell however it adds 200-250Kg to it and the Focus implementation has an additional clutch so in theory should be heavier (by 20Kg I believe)...

EDIT: Just realised it's mightily confusing as what I thought was the RDM is the PTU....
This is the RDM for the Focus:
Assuming this is a serviceable part, similar to VAG's DSG? Will be interesting to see life / reliability on this and if it makes it into any other cars. I imagine a clutch replacement after the 100k quoted life will be horrendous. This is the RDM for the Focus:
