So i take a look. Laufen. Never heard of them apparently hankook were selling for too much so they’ve offshoot a budget brand to sell cheaper tyres.
Hmmmm

Buy cheap, buy twice. I'll stick to the branded, trusted tyres thanks.
I purchased an 8P S3 six months ago with x4 Davantis fitted! I scoffed. I laughed. But they never put a foot wrong. It didn’t understeer in the dry. Not one wheel slip or wobble in the wet. However the fronts had got seriously out of shape causing the car to vibrate over 65mph.
And the shame I felt. Enough was enough. Took Costco up on their offer of a full set of PS3’s for £330. Had a hot dog, a slice of pizza and an ice cream.
Two weeks on and the difference in the tyres is night and day. I have full confidence in the car.

Probably just needed balancing 😊And the shame I felt. Enough was enough. Took Costco up on their offer of a full set of PS3’s for £330. Had a hot dog, a slice of pizza and an ice cream.

While I was off work for a while my daughter borrowed my work car and took it for a mot.
Funnily the Michelin that had 10k in needed replacing somehow despite the last ones getting to around 25k
Without asking me she got them to put in some budget tyres.
Now I’m not s tyre snob typically most mid range are fine.
These are damn right dangerous in the wet never heard of them either

one of the championships i raced in switched to davanti tyres, the championship entrants plummeted after that, i personally didn't feel comfortable driving on them either and left shortly after
What championship? Can you explain further? If it was a single tyre, I don't see the problem as everyone has to do the same job with the tyre. Unless you were worried about it failing?Borrowed my daughter's 2012 mini cooper which we purchased second hand with Davanti DX 640's on the front. The tyres are still legal but are getting near the legal read depth. In corners the car was drifting in corners, especially bumpy corners where it juddered and drifted through the corner. I was convinced there was something amiss with the front suspension, badly worn bushes or a leaking strut. After finding nothing obviously wrong with the front suspension I stuck on the winter wheels which have Khumo all weather tyres and the handling is transformed back to what it should be. Out of curiosity I googled Davanti tyres and found this thread and thought I'd add my experiences - I've never experienced tyre behaviour like this before, actually quite scary to drive.

I recently bought an mx5 for my partner it was a used car and came with 4 nearly new Davanti tyres 205/45/17 if you find this relevant. To be honest i am a tyre snob but this is based on lessons learned over a period of 30 years driving. I found the tyres to be ok ish if you are just pootling which at first was all we did in the car. However i took the car to work today as it hadnt really been used and i thought a quick run out would do it good. The road conditions were damp to wet and temperatures were around +4 so a typical February morning in the UK really. As i was driving along all appeared to be well, i stuck to the speed limit (max50) so i wasnt hooning around at all. I came to a roundabout slowed to ensure it was clear and gently accelerated away, as i started to turnand accelerate i felt that horrid sensation you get when the sidewall of your tyre starts to roll, i checked my speed and was slightly puzzled to see that i hadnt overcooked it at all, bearing in mind an MX 5 isnt known for its rapid acceleration. This led to some experimentation as i drove the rest of the way to work. To steal an earlier comment from another post, Davanti tyres +wet road= soiled underwear. All of my little tests were done at quite sensible speeds and on deserted roads before anyone decides to provide a road safety lecture 🤣
Anyway on arrival at work I immediately priced up some continentals and im having them fitted tomorrow.
I guess you get what you pay for or in my case what someone else was prepared to pay for on a car they were getting rid of. I nearly walked away from the car when i saw the tyres if im honest, my theory being that if someone is skimping on tyres, which lets face it is the only thing glueing you to the planet, then what else have they skimped on? In my case i made the mistake of taking my partner with me who overuled common sense because she really liked the colour 🤣
In short Davanti was not a terrible tyre i have certainly seen worse, if you are happy to adjust your driving style and make compromises then im sure it will do fine. Me, i prefer to remain out of ditches and not have to give sphincter a work out every time i pop out to the shops

I've just swapped the davanti tyres on the alfa which it came with,
I've put barum's on that are good mid range tyres on the recommendation of my tyre place, absolute night and day difference. on the davanti's it never really felt right, seemed to wallow around like the tyre pressures were all different.
Should have swapped them sooner really.

Without starting the whole budget v premium tyre debate up again, it amazes me no one does the maths.
Let’s say Ringrong Nogrips cost £50 each but Michelental Sticklikests cost £100. So £200 v £400 for a set , which seems like a big saving , especially as even mundane cars now come with wide low profile tyres on 17 in wheels.
But the cheap tyres last 20000 / 2 years ,so that’s £100 a year , or 27p a day.
But the premium tyre lasts 30000 / 3 years , so £133 a year or 36p a day.
Less than 10p a day for something that might save your life or at least keep your NCBin tact.
No brainer for me.

This has been done to death.
The odd budget tyre performs adequately, the majority don't.
Testing has repeatedly demonstrated that premium tyres are typically significantly better in wet and cold environments.
It's a good sign that a car is owned by someone who either doesn't know better or doesn't care. They almost certainly pay someone else to fit the cheapest brakes possible too. I just hope it's me not those people who have to do the emergency stop when their nan/child steps into the road on a cold, wet morning...

Yes cheaper tyres are cheaper and therefore not going to be as good as more expensive tyres. But the real world difference isn't as much as it is made out.

What do you consider to be "adequate"? The odd budget tyre performs adequately, the majority don't.

For somebody who's doing 2-3000 miles a year your maths suggests that even the cheapest tyres will last for 7 years, by which time they're likely to have changed the car at least onceLet’s say Ringrong Nogrips cost £50 each but Michelental Sticklikests cost £100. As for the real world difference, it varies indeed. But IME I would call it significant, although my significant can be another man's "who cares".

in theory, but i only found premium tyres last longer on lighter cars. There have worn the same if not better as usually harder tyre compound. No brainer for me.
