RE: Is there hope for the 718 Boxster? PH Blog
Discussion
Expressing a personal opinion to a dealer from the standpoint of a petrol head enthusiast just wastes everybody's time. To a dealer a car is just a unit to sell & this new Boxster will become the darlings of the posing white middle class ladies-that-lunch set & will soon clog up the lanes of Surrey & Cheshire & the car parks of Harvey Nicks - now THAT'S sad.

Nope
I want a multi-cylinder engine. That is why i chose my first three boxsters over other sports cars. Its why my daily driver is a six cylinder diesel rather than a four too. I like the sound of multi-cylinder engines.
I agree. Those single cylinder engines you find in the majority of cars do sound a bit agricultural.I want a multi-cylinder engine. That is why i chose my first three boxsters over other sports cars. But it's also nothing new. When was the last time Porsche produced a real sports car rather than a GT or boulevard cruiser?
When was the last time Porsche produced a serious sports-racer?
For that matter, when was the last time Porsche even produced actual race cars? (Hint: there hasn't been a factory racing team since 1998)
I couldn't watch much of the video, why do they have to play stupid music, when you are trying to listen to the exhaust,or is the exhaust going to be pants.
I also hate all the press release type video's because they jump from shot to shot all over the place, and i start to feel sick.

Although was anyone particularly put off 944s and 968s when they were all 4 pots?
I seem to recall quite a few were. I'll still take a 968 Turbo S though thanksI wonder if it would have been better remembered as a 6-pot

I couldn't finish watching that promo video. It made me cringe: all that button tweaking and mode shifting made it look like an Xbox controller had been fitted in a car with an automatic gearbox.
Maybe that's what the marketing men think people want. It used to be that video games emulated cars, now it looks like cars are emulating Forza...
Still, as many have said before, the demographic who buy these cars don't want a better car to drive, they want a car with bigger numbers on the spec sheet. A car that looks sporty, but drives like a family saloon.

You know what, I don't really need to add anything... Bang on what I'm thinking.. Just to add that it's 'all badge' at the rear, which is a real shame since it's not an unattractive car.
This does not appear to be a car that rewards driver ability.. It appears to be a car that wants to wave a big 'Porsche' flag around and impress people with book figures over the next cup of Nespresso..
This is a really mixed up thread.
Everything these days has buttons, and settings and more buttons, if this was an M car or a GTR you would love the choice and complexity.
These settings are often CO fiddles as they effectively allow different ECU (Power settings) start in bogo thus low standard emissions.
As for the article wanting a skinny tired stripped out Boxster, really? you really expected that? even Lotus don't offer that as much as they used to.

I feel I'm going against the grain here having never owned a Porsche or wanted to but this car looks interesting. A two litre turbo practical mid engined car is what I have wanted for ages since my MR2 turbo died of old age but there has been nothing out there. This is going to a different sort of buyer hope it does well.

Unspeakably awful in pretty much every way and sounds DULL.... Car will be brilliant technically but I'm afraid it's a bit like giving the next Ferrari Dino an in line 5 cyl engine and talk about how few carbon dioxides it emits. Wrong wrong wrong No No. Lordy how Porsche have got this one wrong.....

Imagine if the Internet had been widely available in 1985 how many pages the thread would have run to when they announced the new 3-series M-car would be a 4-cylinder
I wonder if it would have been better remembered as a 6-pot

They did actually postpone the go-live of the Internet until BMW produced a proper 6-cyl M3
(I do like E36s too though!)
