I’d say a TT can’t be a sports car with any engine. Modern diesels are brilliant in the right application. Not for a fun sports car imo.

You could never imagine Audi winning Le Mans with a diesel, could you?

I guess it depends on one's perspective. Like the poster said the guy making the comment drives a Transit Connect. Similarly I drive a 90hp Mini One D. I guess to both of us, a good tdi TT will go, stop and steer like a sports car. I've not owned a sporty car for quite a while now, so perhaps my perspective is skewed.

With any engine ? Really ? The TTS is around 300bhp and the RS about 400. It’s a 4 wheel drive small GT car but it sure fits under the general Sportscar banner. However probably NOT with a diesel.

The LeMans winning car wasn’t a golf in a fancy suit though was it

I suppose its more of a sports car than his Transit Connect
A TT is surely a sports car by any metric?
Not with a diesel engine, surely?
Why not? Are you saying a diesel can never be sporty? I fond that an incredibly old fashioned attitude but, each to their own. beer
Diesels? Spawn of the Devil! smile

I think it is yes, but to emphasise that point when it's got the diesel engine seems a bit of a weak flex.

I know someone who tells people his car is an import, which makes him look a bit silly since whilst it's true in the strictest sense, since it was manufactured outside of the UK then imported prior to registration and sale, it obviously isn't the intended meaning of the phrase.

In that case, I'm happy to be considered old-fashioned.

I’m assuming you missed a parrot, the old sporty van that springs to mind is Guy Martins one that lapped the ring.

Always good when they drag out the Audi Le Man stuff.

Can't imagine why we never got an R8 Tdi.

What a strange comment? I don't own a TT, petrol or diesel but have owned a load of cars, some quite sporty. Are you American?

I genuinely can't imagine why we never got a big power R8 tdi, would have sold by the bucket load. Actually, I can imagine. It woukd have really harmed sales of the petrol one, wouldn't it? smile

You got it. The evocative sound and smell of a diesel engine. What dreams are made of.

I do actually quite like the idea of that... but then again I'm a bit weird

All engines make a noise and smell. Are you honestly saying a big v8 diesel turbo doesn't sound good? Imagine all that torque and power in something the size of an R8. Given the prodigious performance these engines gave supersaloons and barges I reckon it would have been an absolute blast. My dad uses the same argument with regards EV.. but it doesn't make a noise, how can it be any fun. He's 75 and drives a diesel Kia.
