Some butthurt diesel owners in this thread
Always good when they drag out the Audi Le Man stuff. Can't imagine why we never got an R8 Tdi.
Had a gentle laugh at my mother and sisters expense, when they told me whilst in the Ford showroom they asked the salesman if they had a "Mashy" they could view.
The salesman obviously didn't want to upset them, because he showed them around one, and they came home confidently still calling the car that, and probably still will even though I said it was a "Mach-E"
Either way my sister came home with a brand new Dacia Sandero so I don't know what they were even doing there

I’m assuming you missed a parrot, the old sporty van that springs to mind is Guy Martins one that lapped the ring.
Regarding the van that Guy lapped the 'ring in, the word you're looking for is "fast". This is not the same as 'sporty'.Regarding the parrot comment - eh?

What a strange comment? I don't own a TT, petrol or diesel but have owned a load of cars, some quite sporty. Are you American? VS02 said:
BTW - the guy is dead serious. He got angry and started referencing the amount of M badges on his car which suggests his 320d was a true M, completely in earnest..
Couldn’t be bothered to screenshot them all though
To be fair the M Sport models probably have more M badges than actual M cars. The 420d I had was covered in them. Couldn’t be bothered to screenshot them all though
What’s one more!

I remember someone telling me he had an M3, because he had chipped his 320i saloon. This was back in 1996 or so, so he had less than half the power of an M3. I think the bodyshell and/or panels were almost all different too.
the old diesel versus petrol argument is a red herring, usually only indulged in by those who for a variety of reasons only have one car.
It is a matter of using the type of car best suited to the needs of the driver, and in some cases that means using a diesel, and in others a petrol car.

Wife’s grandfather proudly declared he had never had a car serviced!
Oil change with the MOT always does fine. Next conversation how all his cars keep having problems……. I WONDER WHY YOU fkING MORON!
The funniest part of all this is my father in law an experienced mechanic sitting there with his hands over his face clearly having heard this all before. Having to say of course he would be happy to have a look at it

Car sales man took a shine to my 3.0 Z3 (it's a 3.2 z4m), if I ever wanted to sell it, to contact him and he loves them. Clearly...
A private car viewing with my brother in the same car also confuses it with the z3, but gets the engine right. Then tells us he used to sell them back in the day and had one for fun in summer.
You'd expect some knowledge of cars, especially if you used to sell them, as a car salesman.

My van is diesel. It's quite rubbish to drive. It is a matter of using the type of car best suited to the needs of the driver, and in some cases that means using a diesel, and in others a petrol car.
Petrol all the way with cars.

I admit to the same. Oil and filters changed at MOT. Don't wanna curse it but I've done 60k miles in my car now....Oil change with the MOT always does fine. Next conversation how all his cars keep having problems……. I WONDER WHY YOU fkING MORON!

Bit of a niche car, and they stopped making them 14 years ago... A private car viewing with my brother in the same car also confuses it with the z3, but gets the engine right. Then tells us he used to sell them back in the day and had one for fun in summer.

A good car salesman sells cars and has a buyer that thinks they got a fair deal. They should know about the cars they are selling (within reason) but not fair to expect an encyclopaedic knowledge of cars.
Not sure how I feel about this one...
Bumped into an old boy I'd not seen in years at work. Used to love his British cars and wouldn't own anything that was 'foreign'. Used to tell me tales of his old Jags, Triumphs and Austins he'd owned over the years. He loved a Rover though. Last time I saw him a few years back he had an absolutely mint Rover 75. Said he'd never replace it with a Land Rover or Jag because 'they're Indian now'. He was very 'old fashioned' when it came to such things.
So imagine my surprise when I asked him if he still had the 75 and he proudly declared he had a new MG ZS. Can't remember my exact reaction but it was one of shock and surprise, knowing how much he loved his British cars and disdain for anything foreign. It did prompt him to reassure me that 'there's not much British stuff left anymore' as he gazed at his MG out of the window with a smile on his face.
Surely anyone that's clued up enough to know that JLR is owned by Tata knows that MG are Chinese now?

More of a dreamer or bullstter than a non petrol head story. (Which makes it worse).
Ages ago an engineer at an agricultural equipment manufacturer told myself & a few others that he was having trouble with his new Mercedes. The tale involved him having to travel out of our area to the dealer. As there were several Mercedes dealers to choose from in a reasonable distance from us we questioned him further. Eventually he had to tell us the reason he couldn't use the local Mercedes-Benz dealer was that he had the Rexton "version" !
