Do you feel guilty for liking

Swiss watches
Belgian chocolate
French wine
Japanese cameras and electronics
English leather shoes
Italian suits
Scotch whisky?

If you were a British car worker in the 1970's then please feel guilty for crashing the British motoring heritage into the abyss but otherwise appreciate the Germans are good engineers.

Guilt when the only mass produced "British" car is actually owned by Tata? Honestly buy what you like unless you are some kind of mad racist little Englander then if you want a cheap new car you are probably better off walking.

Me, I loved my old English cars but I also really liked my 2 Italian cars, my single French car was great. I really enjoyed 3 of my 4 German cars (I had a really boring Golf which spoiled the party). And my 2 japanese cars were a bit disasterous, actually so was my only Belgian car.

Just don't get me started on were all my guitars come from I will bore you rigid!

I do appreciate that the Germans are good engineers, or I wouldn't have said that I liked their cars. However, as a casual observer of the car market, I would quite like to see a non-German manufacturer pose a serious threat to the Germans, if only to see how they would react in order to regain lost territory - like how Lexus came along with the LS400 and revolutionised the luxury sector.

New Jaguars have been well-received for a while now, but they have yet to make a serious dent in sales of German cars. I'm not saying that I want the German car industry to collapse, but they have dominated for so long that it would be interesting to see some change.

Definitely not anti German, but very much anti BMW and VAG. Love Mercedes cars to bits and am very fond of all/most Japanese cars.

I dislike intensely the way that BMW and VAG have tried to dominate and takeover the worlds car supply. I know this will get me in trouble, but I sincerely hope that VAG go to the wall over the emissions scandal... though of course, they won't.

Now, the above my seem irrational but I, like another poster, have my reasons but are not really suitable for consumption on here.

No, I also like German cars. Nothing feels like 'the whole package' compared to some German cars.

I love most other brands but German cars I still really like smile

I've got a friend who hated German cars, was a jap man through and through. I then took him out in a 12 plate 330d and he was sold. Has been contemplating a 3 series ever since! As a second car to his mr2 obviously tongue out

I like the "M" cars, the "AMG" cars and the "RS" cars in general but the sheer volume of the white goods versions of these cars as well as the blandness and perceived image/reliability is enough to really turn me off ever considering one.

Its not about the country of origin its just about the fact that they all look the same and I'm bored of looking at them absolutely everywhere.

I like a good car. If it is German that is fair enough (and I have a VW Passat)...

I've driven and been in many cars and overall German cars are the best. Their blend of style, looks, performance, desireability etc cannot be matched by other brands. As far as I'm concerned, apart from the exotics, the only cars that exist to me are BMW, Mercedes and Audi I couldn't care less about anything else.

No. But then I'm not a 'huge' fan of them.

I drive a German car (C-class) because when PCP'ing from new it was cheaper than the equivalent (spec-for-spec) Golf and Mondeo for my mileage/requirements.

Let's face it they make / have made lots of good cars - it is silly to dismiss any car on irrational things like this. I've owned more than a few myself.

This cuts both ways though - there are many excellent cars which are not German.

I find it, frankly, a little sad when so called car "enthusiasts" state they have owned 30 cars or similar and they've all been German or all from the same manufacturer!

I mean, blimey, life's short - live a little! Try something else, widen your horizons. Some of the cars I have fondest memories of are....French.

I have grown to loathe VAG too....sick of their world domination and the way the motoring press sucks up to them. I hate the way their generic gently evolving design philosophy has been copied by the industry and has sucked the life out of innovation and change....I don't mind BMW cars, they are RWD, offer something different to the FWD norm...but BMW drivers are still a law unto themselves...

but back on topic, no I wouldn't feel guilty buying a german car.

There are plenty of German cars I like and plenty to which I'm indifferent. Pretty much the same as anything.

I wouldn't drive a Lada Kalina but I quite like the Lada Niva, for instance.

Having a conversation recently with someone I knew at school was quite interesting. He's not interested in cars and was telling me how the Audi A1 1.6 diesel is the best car in the world. How German cars (particularly Audi) are the pinnacle of car production.

It really wasn't interesting, now I think about it.

Owned only two German cars, one being my current. Can't say I feel guilty about owning one though I will say I'm pretty sure my local Audi dealer were once Nazis!

I've owned German, Italian and Japanese cars & not felt that I am somehow guilty of supporting the actions of the Axis powers in WW2. This is because I can separate the actions of a nation 80 odd years ago from the products they now produce / the people that produce them.

I like German cars, without any feeling of guilt, providing they are not pretending to be upmarket with 4 cylinder diesels. So really I don't like German cars wink
