I don't mind a livery car ! IFFFF ! they are on a suitable car.
Examples:
Modified Impreza with WRC livery
MG ZR with black WRC design
Mitsubishi Evo with either WRC or competition GT livery
Replica classics like Ford GT40, Lancia Stratos, Shelby Daytona etc
Classic racers like Ford Escort, MGB/C GT, Old Mini etc

What I DONT like is when it's on cars that don't deserve it such as the MX5 787b example, or the other day I saw a rusty Subaru Legacy with the 90s WRC livery. Either go big or don't bother

But the Legacy was actually homologated and rallied in Rothmans and 555 liveries confused

I think these things fall into four categories:

1) Most of the manufacturer-produced special editions. Martini Delta HF, Evo VI TME, JPS Esprit etc. - They can't really be argued against as they're just another model/edition and at least have some relevant history. You need to be a certain type to actually buy and drive one however.

2) Same manufacturer models with copycat liveries - Hmmm, these need to be *very* special or particularly well done to work, but are generally fairly naff

3) Obvious pisstakes (the Robins, flocked CX etc.) - On the assumption they're for a trip to LeMans then fantastic, if they're some misguided soul's earnest attempt at a tribute and used as a daily driver then...

4) Everything else - Smarts with Petronas liveries, boggo Escorts with tiger stripes, most of the Gulf tat from a few pages back vomit

An Ultima in gulf racing colours looks pretty damned fine to me.

There's an 850 estate near me which is stripped, caged and stickered up to look like a touring car.

Fair enough for a track day but I'd feel ridiculous driving round in it on normal roads.

I might have tried to buy that car a couple of years ago when it was on Ebay. It was either that one or a very similar car.

Personally i'd say the touring car liveries are generally ok for street cars, but GT liveries are not. Especially Gulf; that works on race cars only which are also plastered with sponsors. There isn't a single road car that doesn't look stupid wearing that design.
possible exception:

(ok so not exactly a street car)

It's your car. Your clothing. That's it.
Nail, head. Anything to broaden the automotive gloom is welcome.
The taste police are the ones that point out "X is a bit wonky" instead of enjoying the 99% that's good.
Suspect their aholes are so tight they have to stand up to produce their snooker cue shaped dump.

What's the problem? Gulf or Martini on pretty much anything look great. Other than a twizzy that is, or a bicycle. Mind you, a cycle in gulf racing colours would probably cause a eco wotsit's head to implode.
At least one has been posted in Pedal Powered.

Personally I see the Gulf livery as the motoring equivalent of those unremitting Keep Calm and Carry On parodies. The ubiquity of what was once emotive and iconic has rendered the thing tired and unimaginative.

I remember they sponsored a single seater with the slogan:
The small family car.

Absolutely fab, just love it, right car right sticker job. Best on here by far. Good spot.

Almost every time, I view this practice as, well... not for me. But occasionally I'll see one that just works!

The Audi Quattro paint job looks fine on the S3
nono
Is that a quattro at the back or a straight audi coupe
Easiest way to spot a real Quattro is the flared wheel arches. Mind you this colour scheme makes that more difficult. I think it's the real thing.

I'm simply astounded we've got to 5 pages and this hasn't been posted yet.

Looks good on the right car I think, a metallic green car with silver versions... no.

I rather like these:

Evora GP Edition

Not at all sure about the Gulf livery on the Ginettas above, but I like it on Astons and Ford GT's, I guess because those cars raced in the Gulf colours

My Seven's livery is an homage to 1967 BRM colours- orange/red noseband and dark green/blue body. Achieved by Ford Colorado red (which is actually quite orangey) and LR Lugano Teal Metallic . I think it looks fab- but I would , wouldn't I ?
