Personally I'm not one for PCP deals and chopping a car in every few years, hate the idea of never owning the vehicle.
Me too. Plus restricted mileage. I used to work with a guy who was so pleased to get a great monthly repayment on a Range Rover Evoque through a PCP deal. Problem was the mileage was so prohibitive, he could never use it other than commuting and end up buying a 2nd car to use for work so he could drive his Evoque at weekends. Then that low monthly repayment seemed quite a lot for a car he'd only use for 1/3 of the year.

Kept one for 18months once, that was the longest and anything down too 4 weeks.

Current deal allows me to swap every 12 months, as its nota sports / hobby car it'll be nice to keep getting cars with the newest tech.

Can't imagine 5 years with the same car, how dull!

12 years same car and nearly 200k, guess im just waiting for it to fall to bits, plus the fact i don't like to part with cash, couldn't give a toss what other people think if i did id have to buy a new motor each time a new model came out

Bought my last car at 1 year old and kept it for 7 years and 85K miles. Bought current car at 15 months old and had it for 2-1/2 years. Intend to change later this year as my needs are now different - don't need so a large car and mileage has dropped from 14K to 8-1/2K. My wife's car was bought at 15 months old and is now 6 years old but she drives less than 5K per year.

Before these cars I generally bought at 2 years old and kept for 3 years.

A lot longer than I used to.

Owned 37 in 35 years.

Used to change cars on a whim.

No plans to sell either of my current cars at 8 and 3 years owned.

Until im left with no choice. Current car is nearly 9 years old 71k. Once a repair comes up that costs more than the car ill pop into the saving account i send my "car payments" each month. Armed with what should be a massive budget by now, i scour the internet, reading reviews, watching videos and checking out news. Excitement builds, i finally get the car i really want beyond anything i can imagine then I'll notice the other half has spent that car saving fund account on a kitchen, hair, shoes etc and end up with a banger.

Cycle repeats.

Imagine the horror if it was something really old like a Model T Ford.

Yeah but I'm just an average Joe kind of guy. I don't drive a 2002 Ferrari or a Model T Ford. The whole how long a car is kept thing surely moved when we're talking supercars and classics surely?

Do you think?

I'm not looking for an argument but I just saw it similar to turning up in an out of date type of clothing/fashion? I'm no 'hipster' and really don't give that much of a toss about clothing and fashion, but I'm pretty sure if my parents would've turned up at school to pick me in say flares, I'd have been a bit embarrassed and teased by the other kids.

I'm lucky enough to have plenty of car storage space available at my parents so I keep the cars I love and usually chop and change my every day car as it suits me... Usually the logic follows this cycle:

Sensible car.
Bored.
Stupid car.
Skint/Pissed off with it
Sensible Car... etc

The shortest I've kept an every day car was about a year which was my Evora (sold because although I enjoyed it, luggage tetris became tedious every day).

The longest was my Focus which was about 7 or 8 years although I had the Evo at the same time. I ended up using the Evo every day, was skinted by it, sold both to buy the 123d

I suspect I'll keep the Cayenne for a good few years as I'm still enjoying it after 8 or 9 months and 25,000 miles of using it every day.

18 months to two years mostly. Until this one - it's a keeper. 3½ years so far and still enjoy it.
Warranty's due to expire in about six months, but unless I find anything I'd rather have it'll be here a while yet.

Just bought my fifth car (owned motorbikes over the years, so 36 years of driving but only about 21 of car ownership)

My stats are:

Average mileage per vehicle: 70k
Average cc: 3.6l
Average bhp: 270

(4xRWD, 1xFWD; 1x4pot, 2x6 and 2xV8)

I've had my current Megane for 5.5 years.
I've had mine a month, and I absolutely adore it! It's also nice to see I get broadly the same sort of fuel economy as you.

As an aside, have you had any dealings with Renault Cardiff? The dealers in Bristol don't seem to be able to organise a piss up in a brewery, and if the service and level of competence is better across the bridge then i'll take my car to be serviced there.

Back on topic. 3 cars, 4 years of driving.
15 months, Ford Ka.
19 months, Fiat Grande Punto T-Jet
2 months, RenaultSport Megane 265 Cup.

I do.

If you really didn't care, it wouldn't matter what car you turned up in.

I'm getting the itch to change now, having had my current car 3 1/2 years. Doesn't help that in three months I'm moving so can't make the maths work unless I WBAC my current car and get a shedyesc car.

I know where you're coming from OP. You aren't fussed yourself but don't want to embarrass your kids by turning up in a heap, which may lead to banter from the other kids. Makes sense to me.
