I do find it all rather extraordinary the frenzy and hype that gets whipped up on these specials that are usually destined to be Art, or driven for 2 or 3,000 miles and then - would you believe it - get traded in / swapped for the next unobtainium version of the same car.
Yup, at my local car club there's a guy who turns up in a new £100k plus car a couple of times every year but never seems to go anywhere in them. Paddy_N_Murphy said:
If you say so, but lets be honest - the sum of the parts do not justify the costs.
I think you've said this is more exciting than the 918?
Which was a must have.
And wasn't the 3RS a must have by many ?

All of which will also only be able to be used to maybe 70% of its potential on the roads we have surrounding us.
Not sure why I read it, but in the ST mag this weekend was a company selling jeans that were made up from two pairs of Levi's. They were dismantled, hand cut, crafted, stitched together again in a slightly different fashion or manner.
Available for £800. All sold out.
For two pairs of Levi's
Fortunately never a problem I will have to encounter. (car or £800 Levi's)
Sorry. I'll go mood hoover elsewhere.
To you they don't justify the costs [btw no price is revealed only speculation but it won't be 250£grand] and that's fine .I think you've said this is more exciting than the 918?

My gym clothes are from 1990[ I jest not ].I've never bought jeans for 100pounds let alone 800 . I wear Alberto , 79 euros if you are interested, Levi's far too posh for me .Yet for cars I'm different .
Gt2rs ? Must have ? Nope didn't want it , same with sports classic , speedster , 991 gt3 , 997.2 gt3 , 997.2 rs , 997.1 gt3 , 50th anniversary etc etc . I prefer older stuff usually .
I loved the 918 from when I drove it first at weissach , it blew me away . Nothing to do with "must have" .' This is more usable because of its size , because it's a manual and for those times you just want to creep around . It looks like a regular 911 de stickered to 90 per cent of the population [if I get one it won't have stickers]. Absolutely nothing to do with must have, it's "want" .
Again imv it's rather uncharitable to categorise buyers of these cars automatically thus just because the spending capacity is different to someone else's . Doesn't make them any less an enthusiast ', any less a Porsche beard or nerd than you , or any more than you either . I've never flipped a car and everything I own gets used , hard [918 was at spa in the pouring rain the third day I had it and ask the London 964 boys about the jumping 73rs of doom ].
To think this is a car enthusiasts forum

hey... I am cool with what you say, and excellent in your defence. I also love the low-key-ness of this variant and such.
Perhaps we must accept that *a lot* of the purchasers would fall in to the category of such a limited car as a 'Must Have' or 'Flipper' - I would argue in fact, that it could be made much cheaper and in greater volume, and be less halo'd by doing so.
Its a funny old world, and marketing schemes and hype are what make money usually.
Peace - and I did not mean to offend you personally, if I did.
Please mr Murphy , thank you for the kind clarification . I wasn't in the slightest offended merely offerering an alternative perspective on some other buyers [more accurately some of those trying to be buyers].Perhaps we must accept that *a lot* of the purchasers would fall in to the category of such a limited car as a 'Must Have' or 'Flipper' - I would argue in fact, that it could be made much cheaper and in greater volume, and be less halo'd by doing so.

For what it's worth I actually agree with you , far too many of these cars end up in the hands of flippers and those that dont deserve them .
Another special edition Porsche which (even if you could afford) you almost certainly can't buy. Cue a thousand posts on Porsche forums discussing 'flippers', 'overs' and tedious spec details like the colour of seat belts.
Certain to be a superb drive but that'll be almost irrelevant to many who actually get one from Porsche.
Just hope a few proper (driving) enthusiasts get hold of one.

This could possibly stop these flippers in their tracks, and that is Porsche only sell cars to individuals who have a track record of actually owning these cars, i.e. getting them serviced, and actually owning them for more than a few weeks... The other restriction is that you could write up a contract whereby the buyer would have to give half the profit of the vehicle to the supplying dealer if they sold within a certain time, eg. 12 months....
The trouble is I suspect that this current situation is very good for Porsche, and in the fullness of time allow them to bring out more highly profitable special editions.

We need to think of a system that can be proposed to Porsche at the next customer clinic or event . I know for a fact that many are as unhappy with the flippers as we are .
Any suggestions ?
Auction the build slots (if Porsche want to make money out of it) or put names in a hat?Any suggestions ?
Could run special dealer events for the above to create even more interest/hype.

Don't limit the numbers on anything other than capacity - as they have done for the BMW M2. This would [probably] prevent cars being flipped for a large markup and also ensures all the true enthusiasts [who can afford one] can get hold of one.Any suggestions ?
The whole GT4 saga is classic numpty from Porsche; a £65k car (aspirational but obtainable for many) turned into a £100k car which is now unobtainable for a large proportion of people who were realistic owners at one point. A great shame.

....because Porsche consistently make amazing cars
And have done for more than half a century. And they have consistently worried if they can sell easily what they produce. Last 3 years - no-one could have predicted what has happened and whether it is sustainable . Higher interest rates will remove some of the speculative buying in some countries.
Ownership record matters - flipping within 3 months is usually flippers. Many cars at indies like JZM sport less than a couple of hundred miles.
