RE: Aston Martin DB11 - Geneva 2016
Discussion
It's very fussy but it's a tricky place to be I would think.
If they just evolved the last design slightly they would have been accused of being 'boring' - what do we pay the designers for etc etc?
They must be having to push the boundaries and 'bling up' to attract the newer markets and newer /younger money that require it and who can blame them for that?
On the matter of carefully evolving design though there's a lot to be said for it and the fabulous new 911 is testament to this.

My guess is that the next 911 will be streets ahead in every way. And £50K less expensive.
You're probably right, but the 911 doesn't have the character of an Aston Martin nor does it have a twin turbo V12.So the best solution is to buy both and park them in the garage alongside the McLaren.
Right now I feel gutted. I expected (wanted) to love this in the same way as I did the DB9 when it first came out.
Nearly put a deposit down a few weeks back, hell even the wife was supportive of the idea... but now I've seen it it's not blown me away: the back end I could live with, but those side vents and contrasting roof strakes really don't do it for me.
Will have to wait and see if it looks better in the metal before deciding.

Agreed. It's a bit of a fiddly mess. The problem isn't that it looks too similar to previous models - the problem is that it doesn't look as good.Nearly put a deposit down a few weeks back, hell even the wife was supportive of the idea... but now I've seen it it's not blown me away: the back end I could live with, but those side vents and contrasting roof strakes really don't do it for me.

They've pre sold 1500 this week so clearly we have a dud on our hands right!?
Dealers have been taking (fully refundable) deposits for months. If that figure ^^^ includes all those then it's perhaps a bit misleading as, unless my local dealer has taken a disproportionate number of deposits/was inflating the number they claimed to have taken, a good number of people had their name down well before Geneva... Is it me or does it look slightly over Styled? Like an elephant has sat on the roof and squashed it a bit? It's a really handsome car from other angles but overly fussy from others. Guess you can't please everyone. I'd still love one.
Also thankfully as bad as the steering wheel is at least it doesn't look like it was made from recycled wheelie bin plastic.

Looks a decent looking car, but not loving the two-tone roof/body.
The colour they've shown it in is particularly vile.
You can have the roof rail in black. The only option is to have a black car though. But it does look a lot more elegant in one colour. The colour they've shown it in is particularly vile.

I'm kind of with you on this, somebody has spent too long with the pencil in the design dept.not sure what the right word is, but I would call it over-design, especially the rear quarters, it's the sort of car that will age really badly, in 20 years time it's not going to be the E-Type or DB5.
