I've had some good service from BMW, and Porsche (minor issues both). Terrible service from Mercedes and Fiat, and some good dealer service which meant I didn't need customer service from others. Mercedes are the worst - their 'customer setvice' is simply dealer support and is not interested in the customer - made the worst as they are supposed to be a premium product.
Agreed re Porsche but we are opposite double with BMW & Merc.

Got a goodwill from Merc for a Turbo failure in year 4 @ 37k or there abouts & Tailgate Struts 100% paid a month or so later.

BMW have continually left us High & Dry on a very low mileage 1 Series that's had various, very expensive, idrive & ECU issues & just don't get me started on Mini.

Sort of middling with JLR 7/10, being given a 1.6 Astra as a hire car to replace a FFRR S/C didn't help, they use rentals on lengthy warranty claims & won't give competitor product (Merc BMW etc)

I suppose it's down to your actual dealer & being London based does not help for us I think.

yes

I've always thought Mercs worked best as a wagon, especially (but not limited to) the current range. The rear of the new C looks strange in sedan imho, it works 100% as a wagon.

^This....will be the wagon of choice for me. Saloons always whiff of posh taxi but somehow the estate is much cooler and seems to age better. I'll take the fastest version I can afford in a non gray colour

Yawn. Only the 2 litre diesel with full chav trimmings will sell at all.

And it will still drive less well than a 5 series.

That is very smart. BMW and Audi don't have it in them to do a better car in that segment.
The E-Class is still the one to beat, isn't it? I don't think it's changed in the past 15 years since the E39's demise.

Really? I would take a F10 over a W212 any day.

Well, good thing we don't all like the same thing.

But, to me, someone who would buy a new car in this segment every couple of years, the difference between the Audi, BMW and Merc is vast. Especially these days.
  • Audi: Sorry to all owners, but unless you're forced into one or can't get/afford one of the other ones, I can't for the life of me fathom why you would want such a big car, that has no grain of sportiness but the harshest ride imaginable this side of a carriage.
  • BMW: I can get, it's the best steer. However, interior is a let down and the ride is quite harsh (but not as bad as the Audi and you get a much better handling car in return).
  • Merc: Great interior, very comfortable, superb road manners. The outside styling might not be to everyone's taste, but tbh that goes for all of them, and people who actually buy these type of cars do buy them to spend big miles in them I'd imagine.
Last year I bought an XF over the other three for a simple reason: it was way cheaper (talking 15%) than the equivalent E or 5 series. Otherwise the E would have had it as it's without a doubt the better car in every area that really matters if you do decent miles.

Presumably almost identical to the C-class estate.

I do agree with other comments though that E-class estates tend to look better than the saloons (although I might be biased as I own two of them, a 124 and a 212).

Had an E Class 320 diesel, loads of hassle with quality issues including new wheels , rust and the final nail was complete brake failure, also very expensive for maintenance.

Replaced with an F10 BMW 520 D auto , far better car ,ran it to 100k with zero faults.

When it came to replacement, went to MB to have a look at a new E class , 4 failed attempts to organise a test drive .

Rang up and ordered a new 5 series over the phone and it was delivered about 6 weeks later , saying that it's had a new diff fitted under warranty.

Lost faith in the MB brand , it will take a lot for me to go back.

They don't get any prettier do they??
what is prettier? The 5 series is as bland as could be. The audi is very plain too. I think the merc is quite handsome and that interior.
BMW have become very ugly. Audi, as you say, are boring. Merc have somehow managed to combine both!

9 speed gearbox! I remember when Lexus introduced a 8 speed box years ago there were complaints that this was too much. However, this is a Merc so it will be ok. Lets us read how good it is and that things have moved on.

Does anybody know why there is a rise in emissions if you go for an AMG Line E220d instead of an SE?.

It goes from 102g/km for the SE model up to 112g/km, but i can't see anything in the specs that would make it increase. Am i missing something?

Aero, tires and wheels.
You have no idea how much these things matter for the last couple of grams.
