Car trends that you hope die
Discussion
Increasing performance arms races that result in larger wider tyres, more weight and more and more power.
Whilst the above sounds great on paper, performance of many sports hatches, saloons and coupes / sportscars has grown past what's accessible sensibly on the road.
The reliance on software systems to keep the driver on the road has overtaken the need for drivers to develop and learn car control skills.

People who buy BoxstersCayenne, buy a real Porsche
I fixed that for you - a boxster is a better car than a 911 convertible.Oh, and IMHO if it was designed by Porsche, it's a 'real' Porsche. The one that really can't be called a real Porsche is the Macan - which has an awful lot of Audi Q5 under its skin.

Things that I'd happily see the back of;
Heads up display and other digital gauges - I much prefer to look at analog dials for RPM and speed
again another fan of HuD - great idea and one that more cars could benefit from havingHeads up display and other digital gauges - I much prefer to look at analog dials for RPM and speed
that being said I hate the Fischerprice 'styling' of the new Merc touch-screens... who the fk thought that they were a good idea????
Seriously?

Black wheels.
Please stop with this - there isn't a single car I have seen that wouldn't look better with silver wheels. It just makes it look like your hubcaps have fallen off. It particularly makes me sad at the number of Lamborghinis that have been ruined in this way.
Agree in general, but I have to say the other half's 'White Silver' Mini looks better with black wheels than silver even though I wasn't a fan when she ordered it.Please stop with this - there isn't a single car I have seen that wouldn't look better with silver wheels. Modern cars' weights. I don't want a boggo Focus/Golf that weighs as much as a 70s Jag.
The new VAG MQB stuff seems to be as light as a feather! But do we believe everything the Volkswagen Group tells us?!The same source states that the Golf 5 weighed up to just over 1600 kg.
80s 3.6l XJS - 1600 kg.
70s Jag? About 1700 kg. For the XJ saloon. V12 XJS same.
MQB platformed Passat up to 1700 kg.

I can't believe no one has mentioned 4 pot engine and 4 exit (fake) exhaust, golf gti for example
The Golf GTI doesn't have four exhausts. It's likely you are talking about the Golf R (less said about that car the better) and the exhausts are not fake on it. Of course I am not saying it needs four exhausts (it doesn't), but it's normally best to get your facts right.Superhoop said:
People on car forums who moan about advances in technology used on modern cars.....
Betting none of them use a 1980's Montego as a daily "because it's more pure" or "because they don't burn people's retinas"

Stretch tyres , seems mostly vw's for this one , don't understand it , big wheels smaller tyres looks rubbish imo , but I guess I am old school .
This is originally a German thing. The law states that you cannot fit a rim on your car that is not a width specified by the manufacturer. There is no law about the tyre width. Thus, if you must have superwide tyres they need to be stretched. The German police take exception to this regarding it as dangerous and fine people accordingly. The trend is thus almost dead here.EnglishTony said:
