.. the name has lost its magic.
But not to the shareholders it hasn't, or indeed the people who continue to enthusiastically buy them. wink

(From the Company's perspective, does anyone else matter?)
^^^ This. I'd go further and say to TuboHatchback that as an enthusiast you're in a minority; the vast majority of non-pistonheads (i.e. the rest of the world who actually buy cars) don't share your opinion. A Porsche is still seen as a Premium Name Brand.
I'm well aware of all that, the corporate logic is inescapable I just don't like it. The customer gets what the customer wants and apparently they all want diesel 'SUVs' with 22 inch rims and a posh badge on the front.

That second pic of it wading through those muddy puddles....AS IF. I think the majority of people who will buy this SUV would be positively aghast at the thought of getting it so dirty.

As for the car itself I like it. The power outputs for the diesel look a bit weedy for a Maserati, it should have had 350bhp to match the petrol engine. However it also looks more luxurious than a lot of it's rivals and the price tag isn't as stupendously expensive as I expected which is strange to say about something which costs £50k plus but in the rarefied stratosphere of luxury SUV's, this could be called a downright bargain.

Let's hope they also depreciate with the usual Maserati aplomb so I can pick one up in a few years time for £20k smile

Gopping.

A Maserati S.U.V. is like a diesel maserati, An affront to the brand and its heritage.

Is this another Audi Q7? I've lost track, not that I care.

One of the primary characteristics of a sports car is being good at going round corners. I had a Range Rover Classic which wasn't very good at it & actually made passengers nauseous. I had a Biturbo which was fun, but the chassis certainly wasn't very sporty. I now have a Cayenne which is physics-defying astonishing. How does the Levante fare?

i quite like it but it needs the larger wheels, so does the Giblets (Ghibli). It'll be interesting to see what response the Aston Martin DB X gets when it arrives, who knows maybe it'll be diesel too

My SUV-issues aside, cutting to the chase, if I fancy something a bit different from the norm in this sector I'm looking at a Maserati Levante or Jaguar F-Pace it seems....

Both seem to have enough uniqueness to make them appealing for their desired jobs.. Maybe slightly more road bias for the Maserati and alightly more off-road ability for the Jag..

Not sure about the Porsche Macan as I know nowt about it.. So maybe it's a 3 horse race to be a little different.. smile

This segment of the market is very full and is a buyer with £ 50K going to buy or lease one of these above the existing competition....this I doubt. All of these manufacturers are chasing the end of the rainbow with SUV's but the 'lifestyle consumer' has been hoodwinked into buying these. Madness.

Lovely looking SUV and another positive step from Maserati, a premium brand that has been bold enough to give us the new Ghibli and now the Levante, if they also release the Alferai next year they will hopefully start to see a huge increase in sales and ROI

What most of you fail to understand with your negative comments is that Maserati, like most companies, is in business to make money not pander to your romantic vision of what a sports car or SUV should look like or how they used to be in the " good ole days " .

Pointless discussion. It just won't sell.

Why would you buy the italian alternative over the equally distorted BMW offering if it aint pretty?

Only thing that could save them is this:

I wonder if FCA will go bust first or Marchionne will be out first.

Why, why is there no V8 in this...?!

Why do Maserati keep disappointing me with their run of the mill engines.

I say this purely out of a selfish need for myself, as I understand the crux of the sales and customers are in the £50k band looking for diesels. And to be fair, the diesels do sound pretty decent...

All I have to add is, thank god they have the Gransport, it has a hell of a job on it's hands counter balancing the rest of the Infinity range.

I totally agree. Take the badges off and what are you left with? Guess work.

To me Maserati was once THE best key to put down on the pub table. Now, it's a mass-produced brand trading on its heritage.

I really want to like this new family of Maseratis (QP, Ghibli, Levante).

They just seem so contrived. You can imagine the Fiat/Chrysler board meetings - "we need a luxury brand in these segments, Maserati will do, here's some soulless modular architecture components, job done".

Design and execution seem rushed and done to a price, in my opinion.

Not too keen on the looks. You can see the Infinity Q50 shape from the side angle.

Volvo XC90 definitely one of the best looking 4x4s currently on the market.

Just seen one in the flesh for the first time.

Horrid. Simply horrid.

Proportions completely out of balance, front and back designed by different teams (the back-end most likely in Japan or Korea, judging by the familiar curves), wheels look tiny.

No street presence at all.

So many beter choices out there. Based on looks and absence of any style, it's not worth the Maserati name. But I'm sure it's selling like hot cakes.
