Do you actually look anything up before posting, to maybe check to see if your opinion is actually correct or not?
You do realise Subaru had introduced the Impreza, BEFORE deciding to use it for rallying, not the other way round. And AWD has been the companies principle USP for a long long time and nothing to do with rallying or homologation specials directly, just a handy marketing spiel when required.
But please continue to ignore common sense and facts...
It's an opinion. No-one gets to decide whether or not it's correct. It's no more or less correct than yours or mine. You do realise Subaru had introduced the Impreza, BEFORE deciding to use it for rallying, not the other way round. So, maybe check to see if your opinion is correct in future?

Why is LHD not practical ?......never had a problem with the Lancia I had or one of the cars I have now.
It has zero to do with a car being a "Hot Hatch" or not.
Not a problem for me, the vast majority wouldn't consider buying a LHD in this country. It has zero to do with a car being a "Hot Hatch" or not.

It's in that link I gave you earlier and on Wikipedia. I can only assume you've not bothered to read up on them. Shame. But as the info is out there and readily available, I'll leave it up to you to go and read it, if you are interested. As I say, you are doing yourself a dis-justice.

What a silly thread.
Everyone knows what a "Hot hatch" is and the definition is pretty simple.
It's a faster/sportier version of a normal hatch back. You could pretty much ask anyone on the street and they'd have a pretty good idea of what one is.
I'm not sure what the point of an endless discussion where people create arbitrary rules and then other people try to out 'nerd' them by finding examples that prove them wrong.
All this rubbish about number of cylinders and driven wheels precluding a car from being a Hot hatch is just bks. Yes a 135i is a Hot hatch, it is a faster sportier version of a normal hatch back, which a 1 series is.

I don't see how that was my opinion or wrong.Car launched 1992
First rallied 1993
That seems pretty factual to me.
And while I can't prove it, I'm sure Subaru didn't spend all their R&D effort and money for the Impreza, engine range and platform, just for the sole basis of using it for rallying.
It is an entire model range, that was always intended to have different engine and performance variants. Rallying just happened to be a good way of promoting a car range at the time. And was something frequented by many manufactures. But unlike Formula 1 or even Grp B cars, these cars are first and foremost designed for mass production, road use and business as normal for a car maker.
In ten or twenty years time family cars which happen to have a hatchback will be the size of a Range Rover, weigh two tons and be packing 1000bhp of electric power. Their new owners will proudly proclaim them to be Hot Hatches, saying things like "It's only a grand a month, has a hatchback and is hot, therefore it is a Hot Hatch". This is where we are rapidly headed.
Then will people realise everything has moved on, yet again. Even current heavy Focus drivers may finally admit you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere (to do with size and weight).
Personally my line in the sand is old school. I see everything above 1200kg or larger than the smallest size available as a "family car" or a "fast car", no matter what the boot arrangement or marketing might say. But that is just me. Those arguing to include large and heavy family cars as "Hot Hatches" ends up in having to allow almost anything else under the sun as well. For example; FF and Panemera models, which of course is a piss take. Even though they are the smallest four seater cars those manufacturers make (as someone else's definition of a Hot Hatch). I think we covered that enough already though!
Whatever anyone else says I will always consider Hot Hatch to mean SMALL and FUN. Never large, comfy, ultra practical family wagon with all the toys.
Each to their own.

People will argue about anything on here
Absolutely. It has got to a point where you cannot submit a contrary opinion to the herd of sheep without others categorically stating things like "You are wrong, admit it". Despite the fact everyone is entitled to an opinion, especially on a subjective issue. Interesting debate gets shut down to insults. It is almost pointless engaging sometimes. So I can understand why so many of the original posters have given up the General Gassing section. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
