Greatest GT car
Discussion
I think there are several great GTs among the past and (in some cases) present offerings of Ferrari, Bentley, Aston Martin and Maserati listed on the previous pages. But from personal experience I consider also the not hardcore versions of 996/997/991 911 a great mile eater, thanks to the immediate and accessible driving pleasure. And the luggage space isn't bad thanks to rear seats.

Interesting choice of cars. Lots of them applicable for mid-life crisis.
Surely the brilliant ride of the Mercedes products has got to be a close contender.
Of course, but I don't like these threads where people suggest their own car as the perfect answer to whatever the question may be.Surely the brilliant ride of the Mercedes products has got to be a close contender.

Only the SL. No other Merc counts. We're talking about getting to Nice after breakfast. But in Nice, the cleaners turn up for worm in Mercs. Nowhere near special enough..Surely the brilliant ride of the Mercedes products has got to be a close contender.
Another contender:

I'm not up on Bentleys at all - but that looks like a pre-VAG model to me. Looks good though.
I posted one of these early in the thread.Continental R (there was also a T). They use the Rolls 6.75 litre V8, only with a brace of turbo's too.
Not the most powerful, but loads and loads of low end grunt. So completely effortless to drive.
The interior is also divine and sumptuous. The carpets are inches thick and your feet sink into them when you climb inside.

I expect that any big-engined barge would manage the technical challenge but most cars with more than two side doors fail when you get to the destination and step out. The coupe or cabriolet say that you have the car because you want it. The saloon says you need the space but would rather have the coupe, e.g. Mercedes CLS, Porsche Panamera, etc.The newish AMG GT is a rather tasty item that does both GT and sports car pretty well as long as you keep to grown-up colours and again avoid black wheels and trim.

Thanks, what was the significance of the T and the R. Which is better?
More info here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bentley_Continental_...
The T was essentially the go faster version, rarer and a lot more money.
It looked more aggressive, think it had a shorter wheelbase, more sporting interior, sharper handling and more power. Latter ones had 650ft lb of torque, and no it wasn't a diesel!!
A friend had a Continental R and another a Continental RT (essentially the T engine in the Turbo 4 saloon body).
Fabulous cars. Sadly I've never had the opportunity to go in a T though.
Goodness.
There's some serious metal on that dealer site.

I wish people would stop mentioning the xkr as I'm sure it's sending people scurrying off to the classifieds, and I've got my eye on one in there.
However before people tell me to stop messing around and get it bought, I'm really hoping to enjoy a few weeks of decent top down weather in mine and it still be for sale in about 8 weeks. Hopefully a decent part ex value will then be offered when I turn up on a glorious sunny day
However it definitely won't be for sale if people keep banging on about how great they are. They aren't by the way, they're slow, with poor ride quality, and an interior made up of hard scratchy plastics, and are only suitable for old men with pipes and slippers, listening to Matt Munro apparently (whoever he is).
Now lets get back to that RS6 again, amazing suggestion...

That interior is truly awful.
Really? How?I admit, I prefer wood over the the machined aluminium, but it's still a nice interior by any objective or subjective measure.

Just get it bought and give the dealer a chance to sell that cabrio when the sun is shining!
They are a bit slow,
... compared to an F1 car.
The ride is worse than ...,
... a Rolls or a Bentley, I guess.
There are one or two bits of scratchy plastic actually, but most of the interior is covered in leather and alcantara.
Have you rung that dealer yet?
