Just thought I'd remind fellow PH'ers what not to mess with when out there on the streets.
Joe, at the end of the day mate, no one is saying your car is crap. I cant help but feel you have a degree of buyers remorse; trying to convince people endlessly that they are all wrong and your car is the benchmark in its class. Lets be honest; it isnt. And also lets be honest; it doesnt matter.
Youve bought it, so enjoy it. Do you really think people see you in it and think "should have bought an ST"? Im sure they have far better things to worry about. Well, Id hope so anyway. Be confident in your choice and ownership will be a much more relaxing experience.
If we all bought the 'best' car in its class we'd all drive the same thing and who'd want that?
I had a Mito QV for a while. And it was completely flawed in many ways. It was aboslutely not the best car in its class, but it was the one that I wanted. I still have no idea why. I just enjoyed it and didnt give two sts what anyone else thought. I could have argued endlessly about how it would have kept a Clio 200 honest over an undulating b-road and quoted in gear acceleration times until I was blue in the face, but frankly, what would be the point? If the success of my decision was based on road test reviews and cold hard facts, it would, undoubtably have been a poor one. However, life is too short to measure everything like that; I loved it so to me, it was a great choice.
If you want someone to tell you you have a great car, consider it done. Joe you have a great car.
However, try and remember; you didnt design or build it. If people dont agree with your choice, its not an attack on you; they just dont agree with your choice. Quoting 1/4 mile times or obscure road tests wont change their opinions. It just leads to this. Its not the first time we've been here is it?
Now if we could go back to discussing the topic at hand rather than having every thread ambusshed and immediately descending into your car vs. the subject matter/your car vs everything else/you vs everyone else I think we'd all be much better off.
For the record I think both the RS and the CTR are brilliant. I love the fact that they take different approaches and have fundamentally different characters. I cant comment on which is 'best', as I havent driven either of them. And even if I had, Id like to think my preference was based on which one I enjoyed most; not 0-60 times or the opinion of a roadtester Ive never met.
Night night.

This is exactly why I have a Giulietta QV. No, it's not the best in class in any way, but I test drove all the usual suspects and they left me cold. Test drove the Giulietta and loved it. Gave me a warm, fuzzy, happy feeling and still does, 2 years later and it fulfills it's role as quick, fun daily driver amazingly well. Long and short of it is, journalists have very different priorities in testing cars to the people that live with them, so make your own mind up, don't let others sway it for you.

Beautiful bit of trolling from the editorial staff This is all very odd.
Surely it is kind of pointless arguing over which is faster, the Polo or the Fiesta when they are essentially the same performance wise. Joe, you prefer the Polo. Good for you. Glad you like it. Some may disagree! That is also fine. I wont mention anything about spending 18 bloody thousand pounds on a Polo. And that a second hand M3 is about 12K. Or any of the other second hand options out there. Because you probably wanted a brand new car.
But, surely driving is all about fun is it not? And fun as hot hatches are, i've owned some, at none licence losing speeds it is all still a bit dull isnt it? I mean 'accelerate - woooooosssh turbo - 60 aaaaaannnd brake'
I'm sure your Polo is a lovely, quick, capable car. Is it as fun as my MX5 on a sunny day? No. Quicker? Definately. Safer? Yes. More reliable? Probably not, my mums Polo of the same age seems to always be in the dealers....but i'm sure most are. But fun? As in big grin i dont care if a copper sees me because this is a laugh and if i make a mistake i can catch it as i'm doing 40 mph not 100mph fun? Pull the other one.
Oh and uploading a video of you following another car quickly down a countrylane where you can see you are speeding? That is just retarded.
But I'm glad you like your car, enjoy it!
And to refer to the original question, Type R please. But i havent driven either. Which i'd probably want to do before making a choice.... cos you know....it's a car?

Tbh i think my EP3's would have both these in the twisties ... the Polo Gti is another matter.
But we know from ye oldie tymes that a Cio 172/182 would beat an EP3 in the twisties... but as you say, the Poo GTi is another matter. *for those that don't kkow there was 'banter' between Hondafanboys and Renaultfanboys about whose car is quicker in the 'Twisties'

I wish I'd have not been a cheapskate and just got the EP3 in the first place as in my opinion it's better than the 172/182 but then I probably wouldn't have bought the Polo and provided PH with so much amusement *for those that don't kkow there was 'banter' between Hondafanboys and Renaultfanboys about whose car is quicker in the 'Twisties'

Catching up on this thread, it's so amusing how Walt slags off others for "fanboy garbage" and never shuts up about the Polo.
Thing is, I liked the Polo GTi before this thread - it's now forever ruined

Also I may have to transplant the DRL's to the front of my Civic as the front is way too cutesy as standard.
