I'd chose this over the S on looks alone - the fact it has a bit more storage space is almost a free bonus. I can't see anyone missing the fraction of a second in acceleration over the s unless you're a pointless willy waver, or are racing it - at which point presumably you'd have chosen something else in the first place.

I can understand if people prefer the looks of other McLarens and would chose them on that basis, as taste is a subjective thing, but for me is the sweet spot of the entire current McLaren line-up.
Precisely this

A lot of car for the money. It's almost cheap!
there are a whole bunch of used 12c's in the classfieds that are looking very optimistically priced compared to this car.

Really do like this. Although I’m ashamed to say I’m struggling to tell the McLaren model line up apart. As any self confessed petrol head should be able to do, I can usually pick out a model from 100 yards – 911s easy as to whether they’ve got wide bodies/rear arch vents etc, but I just don’t know whether I’m seeing 540/570/650 when I do rarely see a McLaren.

Not that it’s an issue, and probably a good thing from McLaren's perspective. Just a frustration when I drive past not knowing what it is I’ve just seen...

Its a great addition to the line-up. The biggest plus for me with the GT is the glass roof as the cabin on the 570s I drove is a little dark but given that they're bound to bring out a 570 / 540 spider soon then they will have a car in the 'sports series' that ticks every box.

Personally, I still prefer the looks of the 570s / 540c with the open buttresses and proper 'supercar' engine deck at the back. There is chap in the 'McLaren' forum who's just taken delivery of a new 540c for an all-in price of £131k which is an absolute bargain for a car with these looks and performance. Visually, they make a 911 Turbo or R8 look very ordinary.

540GT anyone? It would be a great combination, and give the R8 an awful lot to think about.

This looks stunning, and relatively good value for money.

This or a second hand 3 year old GT3 which are approx. the same price ...... you would have to be nuts to go with the German option.
I certainly does make a compelling case doesn't it compared to the GT3.. The latter seems way overpriced in comparison tbh.

GT3's are very very special. More special than a 570GT?....I think they are very different cars. The GT3 is not a particularly great road car but it's a fantastic track car. The 570GT although much wider than a GT3 would be more comfortable for day to day and will do track when you want it, although may not be quite so focused of course.

The correct answer is you'd have both.

Me? If it could only be one, I'd take a brand new McLaren, either the 540C or 570GT. I'd need to try both before deciding though.

least with McLaren you can actually order one, as opposed to getting fked around by your local OPC when you try and order a GT car furious

err. that free space costs £11k. I'm not sure if there is any extra equipment on the GT that is not on the S?

Lovely car though - I want one too!

Do McLaren actually only make LHD cars? or are they so up themselves that this British company wouldn't demean itself by actually making a RHD car?

Eh! take cars out to Spain and ask the press to drive a RHD car on the wrong side. If you read the article, the glass lid on these if hinged on opposing side depending upon whether it's LHD or RHD.

The interior on the GT is apparently a little more luxurious as standard, but the additional cost is off-set (substantially) as you don't get the 570s carbon ceramic brakes as standard on the GT.

This looks a great addition to the line up .

One thing that gets me ,doing a bit of fantasy configuring is that the colour selection is a bit bland .

I appreciate you can go the MSO route and have any colour you want for a price , but the standard selection seems a bit limited.
The configurator has a few quirks that if you play around for long enough you may find some colour options that are not immediately obvious. You may have already found these though in which case its MSO.

Do you honestly say that you cannot tell the difference between a McLaren 650s and a McLaren 540/570?

Ok, the 540/570 are visually identical and will be impossible to tell apart but the 650 is a completely different car that does not share a single body panel with the Sports series cars.

Side on...

540C/570S

650S

Yes there is a strong family resemblance but no more so than any other manufacturer really. However if you can tell the difference between a 911 Carrera and a 911 Carrera 4 then the McLaren's should be blinding obvious smile

Call yourself a petrol head winkhehe

ps. I think the 570GT is clearly the best car they make. With that money in the bank I can't actually think of anything I would prefer.

Carbon disks are standard on the S and not on the GT so it's even more expensive than you might think.
