RE: McLaren 570GT: Driven
Discussion
Interesting direction for McLaren to go.
In the real world I would think that this 570GT also has to compete with a low mileage almost new Ferrari F12 and I wonder just how well it would fare in a back-to-back test ?
I've a vested interest in the question because I'm potentially a customer for one of these two cars but only after a first owner has taken the initial big hit on depreciation.
Currently I'm lucky enough to have a ten year old Ferrari 575M which remains a superlative tool for crossing the Continent.
Dynamically the F12 is a considerable advance on the 575M, if not in looks, but the McLaren could be a potential alternative.
How about a twin test against the F12 ? Make it a triple test and I'd be happy to take along the 575M as a comparison.

Does not bode well for 650 residuals, or is the number so small it does not matter?
570 seems good value
He will be along soon, don't worry...570 seems good value

I ordered one at the Geneva show, it will be one of this first ones, and should be here by end July-ish.
Very glad to read the good review!
Blade Silver. Nothing too lairy - will be using it most days.
Look forward to seeing it around town! Exige roadster on George St today isn't one of yours?Very glad to read the good review!

(Parked where there's often a certain blue 918 on sunny days....)
Having driven the 570S back to back with a Huracan & 458, given the choice it'd be the McLaren for me. Absolutely phenomenal - congrats.

A coupe though, not a roadster. Less expensive than a 918 on track...

Mp4 12c failed??? The description is a bit of a mouth full, but err otherwise? Have you driven one?
I think it's trendy for the ignorant to trash the 12C. Since the updates to the original specs it's become a wonderful car.Yes you`d have certainly caught a cold if you paid £200k for one a few years ago, but then why would you sell it, especially with the upgrades? Given the current values for the 12C I can only see them staying steady (unless the whole car market collapses of course), or they may even appreciate a bit given how much better they are when compared to anything at the same price point, and easily as good as cars at much higher prices (I much prefer mine to a 458 for instance, yes the 458 makes a great sound at full chat, but the 12C isn't bad either, the press would have you believe otherwise).
I had an MP4 on pre-order for a long time before they were produced. I postponed delivery as timing wasn't great, and then cancelled when early cars had so many issues. (At that time, the nearest dealer was hundreds of miles away).
Since then, they have backed their original cars with upgrades and have gradually improved new models.
More than a few PR disasters along the way, but the 675LT and now the 570 GT/S are class leaders. Given Mac's headstart with carbon, the others are going to keep falling behind without a culture change, IMO.
Clearly great competitor cars, but in comparoison they are relying on past glories while Mac is just shaking off past mistakes.
I fell out with Porsche over the 'R'. So, went to Porsche's Geneva hospitality for a free entry and lunch, and then walked over to order the GT!
I think once you go Mac, you probably don't go back...

Mclaren seem to be flogging a dead horse even when it's been buried. Yet another version of the failed MP4-12C.
Time to start again guys, come on.
Give it a rest BrunoTime to start again guys, come on.
You probably think you're being loyal to Ferrari by posting this childish nonsense but it just makes you look like a moron.
A man of your age should know better.

The interior on the GT is apparently a little more luxurious as standard, but the additional cost is off-set (substantially) as you don't get the 570s carbon ceramic brakes as standard on the GT.
The 570GT is clearly a great car, and looks much better than the 570S. However, it feels a bit over priced compared to the 570S when McLanren have removed the standard ceramic brakes and jacked up the price by £10k. The improved interior and glass roof are nice additions, but if you put the ceramic brakes back on you are looking at around £15k more than the 570S, which seams like a bit too much to me.garyhun said:

To be very honest I don't think that the updates had done anything to turn the car into 'a wonderful car' as they were relatively small as far as specs/mechanically - gearbox software tweaks, 25PS more and some flappy rear spoiler software much later that is i admit entertaining when you are on full throttle. If one didn't like the car pre major 2012 update, you still wouldn't like the car post that update, in many ways I don't think I substantially noticed a difference in my car when it got that update in late 2012. I still think the 12c is a bloody good road car though and I'd pretty much agree with footsoldier said above. If one has a good experience with a Mclaren, it's hard to go back, certainly as far as new cars are concerned anyway. The new nav unit is a very major improvement over the non working original but that isn't really relevant to how it drives...

They may fall in the same price area but a front engine V12 GT Ferrari is really something difficult to compare to any other car. Its fascination, at least for me, goes well beyond driving dynamics...In the real world I would think that this 570GT also has to compete with a low mileage almost new Ferrari F12 and I wonder just how well it would fare in a back-to-back test ?

Said so I love Mc Laren and the the 570 looks fabolous, much more cohesive than the 650S. My favourite remains the original MP4-12C which I also had the chance to drive and looks already a classic supercar I will be glad to own for decades.
