You don't have to overtake someone just because you can, especially if there's a red traffic light or queue ahead, or if you're about to turn left...
Presumably this applies to pushbikes as well. What grinds my gears is the packs of cyclists out on sunny days making it impossible to overtake, slower than the traffic behind wants to go... but they'll never pull in to let the massive queue behind them pass. Same as bl00dy caravans. And the cyclists always seem to pick NSL A roads where it is almost impossible to overtake even before they decide to ride 2/3 abreast to have a chat. I have no problem with motorbikes when I'm in my car, as they overtake easily then disappear into the distance.... but cyclists are a slow moving liability even before you find an incline.

Maybe most, but not everyone; based on people talking about "having to" overtake the same person every 10 seconds....
One person. The statement in question referred to cyclists pointlessly overtaking cars, which then go on to overtake the very same cyclists when congestion eases. Why overtake in the first place and simply cause more congestion? On 99.9% of roads in all conditions cars will get there quicker so why do cyclists try to compete? Why is it so important to turn the road into a personal racetrack and compete against the woman in the people carrier whose just on her way to the shops?popeyewhite said:

It has no advantage to me to skip past them and in fact I'd rather have them out of the way and likewise for them regarding my presence. While moving, if there is a large vehicle behind me I squeeze in as much as possible and let them by, but some cyclists are intent on their position and I feel deliberately block traffic.
You get a few breeds of overtaker's in cars. Those who are fine and just get it done, those who come within an inch of your handlebars, those who make numerous failed attempts at stupid points such like locations of traffic islands and finally those who give you so much room that they almost cause a head-on collision in the opposite lane.

The "statement in question" was from the op who talked about a situation that persisted for a few miles, not a single occasion. So this is not just cyclists pointlessly overtaking cars, it's cars pointlessly overtaking cyclists as well.
Actually it was 3 cyclists and 1 car. For having the temerity to overtake the cyclists when an opportunity presented one of the cyclists rather typically banged on his car window looking for an argument.jonnM said:
The vast majority of people I see RLJ'ing are car/van drivers.
Go to London and open your eyes, you'd soon change your mind! There's masses of them doing it routinely! An old lady crossing the road just in front of me in Shoreditch last week was almost taken out by a cyclist riding at a fair pace across the public crossing whilst it was clearly on red. Another pedestrian yelled at him and got told to **** off. Pity no one could have caught up with him and shoved his bike up his obnoxious ****, but with no plate, licence or way of identifying these ****s they know they can do as they please and they do!
