RE: Audi RS2: PH Heroes

Anyone know where the seats for these came from? Presume they're Recaros, but did they feature in another car before this?
Reason I ask is I remember hearing a tale about the front ones having a fold-forward mechanism, as they had come from a coupe, but not sure if true. They are different to those in the S2 Coupe I think

Depends what you like driving.
I'd like to drive the B7 and have £10k in the bank, how about you ?blade7 said:

I totally understand, but you could realistically drive the RS2 and still make money back on your investment when you come to sell it. That way you could enjoy the car and know your money was safe. No 'buy and garage' necessary.
Take "investment" out of your post and I'd have no issue with it. Sure it's nice for a genuine enthusiast to run and maintain a car properly effectively for very little, but I don't put investor/speculators in that category.Leins said:

Seats are definately Recaro but not the same as a S2 which are not Recaro from memory (I had one) just bucket type Audi seats.Reason I ask is I remember hearing a tale about the front ones having a fold-forward mechanism, as they had come from a coupe, but not sure if true. RS2 seats do not fold forward.

Years ago my dad and I took a pearlescent white RS2 for a test drive up in Inverness. Was so very, very close to trading in my Ur 20v quattro for it, but decided to 'stick'. It was bloody quick though!
I remember seeing it in Highalnd Audi (or Hawco as it was) when I had my S2 Avant. Drooled all over it as I had/have a pearl urq also. That was the only Pearl White RS2 in RHD. Car still about down the south of England somwhere, seen it not long ago on FB.
I had a silver one in the late 1990's. Epic drive once the turbo kicked in. The Porsche brakes were stunning, interior was lovely and overall a good steer. My biggest issue was servicing. Audi had no idea how to look after the car and Porsche were happy to take my money but not provide adequate service. Went to an indy and although not cheap re parts the car ran beautifully. Fast and unusual but not a car to collect.

Alright, so the Audi would be comprehensively behind by the time it reached 60mph, but from the point of view of Audi fans and pub bores everywhere that didn’t matter
Yes; unless you're drag racing, 0-60, 0-30 etc. means very little. Unfortunately, bragging rights are everything to most punters and the problem is that this mentality affects the design of performance cars, followed ultimately by our choice.I was lucky to have one for two months two years ago. My friends father had passed away and he didn't want to leave it to rot in his dad's garage so asked if I could look after it at our place in the sticks (he lives in a less than upmarket area of Manchester). I used it for work travelling around North Wales and loved every moment in it. It was M plate in red. His father bought it new in 199x. It had 105k on the clock but went like stink, absolute hoot to drive and phenomenal handling. Thirsty but I like a drink too!! Couldn't beat 23.7mpg's and had it down to single figures on some spirited outings.
Most memorable time was the drive from Mold on the Melyn y Coed road and on the last stretch to Trefnant coming up behind a V8 R8 in white and hanging onto his tail round the twisties. Not sure the guy knew what the car was (modern Audi drivers eh!?) but he had a shock when I appeared to be going for the pass on a straight (just being cheeky). I'd love to own one. It's nice to see most are in the hands of the right kind of people to ensure the legacy remains.
To all of you lucky people. Enjoy.

So why is this Audi uber estate uber cool, and the current RS beasts not?
Audi 80s / S2s weren't exactly dynamic heroes if I recall, pretty mediocre in fact.
An RS4 would utterly murder it in every driving scenario, and yet even VAG haters have a soft spot for it. People are strange.
I would suggest that it's performance today isn't exactly poor, in 1994 it was nothing short of nuts fast!Audi 80s / S2s weren't exactly dynamic heroes if I recall, pretty mediocre in fact.

Plenty cars today are better / faster, but that's not the point comparing cars that are over 20 years old.
