RE: New TVR - the car
Discussion
I wish them good fortune with this. I really hope its a big success. Sounds very promising.
I do not agree with their marketing strategy however. This is not a "tease" campaign, or, if it is, it is not working.
Just showing cars under covers or using partial drawings, only really works if you have trust established with your target market. This trust has not been established, so cynicism can prevail and people don't really believe it.
Just get a car out there ! Get a prototype on the track or making fleeting appearances at car shows and festivals. Build up some enthusiasm.
Too many cynical minds just see this as another English hqpe-over-reality sports car exercise. After all, there have been many, many, many of them....

Why on earth would you want to be able to switch off the ABS? Traction control being switched off I can understand, but ABS?
I'm pretty sure that it was Max_Torque that pointed out on here a while ago that even the best drivers can only just beat a modern ABS system in the dry on a grippy and consistent track, if it was wet or variable the ABS was better/far better.

I like not having ABS, it keeps you on your toes.
I like having it in emergencies though so having it there until I want to behave like a cock would be lovely.
Same as traction control really
If you are "behaving like a cock" chances are, you've already switched it off. Are you saying that you want your car to have empathetic mind control that can detect "cock mode" and refuse to disable ABS +/- TC?I like having it in emergencies though so having it there until I want to behave like a cock would be lovely.

Personally prefer no ABS on track. I'm not racing, and not trying to set times - just trying to drive my own car as well as I can, even if that means fluffed downshifts or a lockup. If they can achieve 500bhp and 1200kg with reasonable build quality (both perceived and actual) and styling for under £80k, I think they'll sell a good few of them. I think they can get away with minimal in-car tech for this sort of thing, but it will need decent (as in effective but not too intrusive) ESP.

Excellent news! British innovation. I love it. Manual box. Not caring about 0-60mph.
This could push the sports car market back towards the focus on driver involvement. Wouldn't it be lovely if VAG/Porsche followed suit and TVR is the turning point for the industry?
I don't think Edgar is correct about paddle shifting knocking off a 1/2 second on the 0-60 time compared to a manual transmission? Isn't it more like a tenth difference? This could push the sports car market back towards the focus on driver involvement. I think it's a fantastic idea to have switchable TC and ABS. The driver can then choose - 99% of the time I'd have ABS on and if you want to "play" a little, switch off TC.... Then back on again for the sensible driving (i.e. most of the time).
