I think you have to be realistic, they are not known for reliability!

Its a very nice looking car and the engine looks like a belter so reliability is probably worth the risk.
Utter rubbish. I've owned five. Never had an issue.

Germans have a similar daft image. The reverse as it happens, of being well made. That is also a laugh (on their modern efforts).

OH MY GOD, NO!! A wing mirror failed? Hell on Earth. What a nightmare!

Whatever you do, I suggest avoiding a modern VAG or BMW! They'll have a few more mechanical issues than that laugh
Never had a mechanical issue with any BMW after having 10 new ones.

I would say that you have been very, very lucky.

Agreed on the BMW reliability issues, the GF has had 2 new BMW's both with quite a few faults.

65 plate X1 and a 12 plate 1 Series.

But then compared to the new skoda she had beforehand they can be seen as very reliable. Here's hoping that was just a lemon and not representative of all Skoda's!

It just doesn't look right. Nearly.. but got it wrong somehow. In fact looks wise I think I prefer the Lexas's oddball entry

Then take the 4c.
It's not like this is going to be a mainstream model, is it?
I suspect the main difference is that this will be a rare version of a mainstream model, there aren't any cheaper 4Cs in the range for buyers to choose.

I've actually gone from not really being fussed about this Alfa to really quite wanting one, It's probably a bit too rich for me though so I hope they do a fairly powerful petrol model that looks similar for normal 3 series money.

The QV is the first car in a long time where I would seriously consider getting one new. My only problem is that I don't do enough miles to justify buying any car, let alone an expensive one.

Hopefully this will go like the 156 where the lesser models sold in volume, and the GTA sold in smaller quantities. A well looked after GTA will have suffered about 60% depreciation in 15 years, which is not all bad.

Reliability? As the driver of a 15 year old 156, I can't say that it has been flawless (it eats suspensions when used hard), but the only time it has let me down was when a radiator hose burst - which says more about my maintenance of a car that was then 12 years old. Other than that, no complaints.

On the dealer question - just for god's sake give the car to the specialists. Yes, they're frequently grubby, but they are the only people who give a toss about the brand, and I'd swap grubby enthusiasm for oily salesmen in glass palaces any day.

It's quite funny, I remember people on here talking about how they where going to buy an 8C for half its value after 1 year, they where wrong.
Ha, bet you if you find that thread it's the same people that are making the same claim on the QV

The QV won't be a mainstream car either!

As previously posted I think a 5 year warranty would definitely help.

There will be plenty of petrol left. Let's just hope it's available for this car then.

I've never been called lucky, there is a reason I keep buying them and it isn't luck it's because they work.

From experience, buying 10 new cars from any brand, especially BMW, without any mechanical failure is very lucky.

Shall we wrap this up by quietly agreeing that any new car can develop faults?

I don't believe there's any manufacturer who produces cars good enough that you'd on average expect to have no problems with ten new cars in a row and BMW are generally a very long way from the top of both reliability and customer satisfaction surveys.

A sample of ten is not statistically significant.

16 seconds in, sounds pretty good. That said, steering wheel aside, the interior was not what you would expect from a 59k car.

You are buying Italian design and a Ferrari engine for less than 100k. Reality check required. The interior on a C63 isn't great.
