I wonder if the Genesis Coupe would have been better received?

Probably, while the big V6 seems more American market, the 2.0 turbo would certainly have done well here, 300bhp IIRC?http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/hyundai/genesis/89617...

Really? Because I just re read the thread and I can't see even one comment about the badge or the brand.
Agree - struggling to see the badge snobbery on here at all..I suspect it's involuntary argument thrown out by Hyundai owners on the automatic assumption they're going to be criticised about it. It wasn't needed here.Myy wife ran a 2.0 S3 for 4 years, and I agree with everything here: good quality, good value, good looking, mediocre at most things, suspension a bit crashy but also with quite poorly weighted driver inputs (ie steering, brakes). I did have some rust starting to appeara on the inside of the rear arches, but the steel was so thick it would be another decade before it emerged on the other side IMO.
We've now got an Alfa 156 T-spark, which is actually less practical, about as bad on fuel and works slightly less well, but handles way better with a much nicer feel to the car.
It was a close call against the gen7 Celica, but I just didn't like the wedge shape of it, and 3 series coupes were a lot more expensive.

Badge snobbery the biggest issue, then and now, already prevalent in this thread.
Really? Because I just re read the thread and I can't see even one comment about the badge or the brand.Prevalent - widespread in a particular area or at a particular time.
And it's hard to read "Hell no. I'd rather walk." any other way.

Slow. Thirsty. Ugly. No rust protection to speak of at all. Interior feels like a children's party in a pound shop. Everything. If it was all I could afford, I could walk, cycle, or bus, till something came up that was less unpleasant. It's Pistonheads, surely there has to be something 'special' to make you care about your car if you frequent Pistonheads? Not feeling it here.

It is a coupe but not a sporty one.

I always thought these deserved to sell better than they did. Handling is hardly inspiring but no worse than the mk1 TT and other transverse front-engined competition. It's decent looking, has an engine that has character if not a huge amount of performance... sadly it also has a Hyundai badge. At that money, I can certainly see the appeal.

Not feeling it here.In fact, I'd go as far to say that if you didn't care about your car, no matter how mundane, is a clear sign you're not a car person. Every car I've owned I've treated with love and respect, regardless of their flaws.

I always really liked the look of those. Thought it was a shame they chose not to sell them here.
Would have been too expensive to sell here, fuel mileage for the V6 is not very great. But it is fast (0-60 in the high 4 second range) and the build quality is miles ahead of other Hyundai's.
This is mine that I brought over, 2013, 348bhp, 8 speed auto, RWD. I honestly do not drive it very much, it mostly sits in the garage.
