Probably, while the big V6 seems more American market, the 2.0 turbo would certainly have done well here, 300bhp IIRC?

My son had one of these, and it was completly trouble free, on the few occasions I got hold of it I wrang the little beasties neck and it was great fun, handled with no vices, gearbox quick and accurate, it basically reminded me of my 924 Turbo that I owned many years ago.

Why?
Lack of an Audi/BMW/Mercedes badge obviously.

Agree - struggling to see the badge snobbery on here at all..I suspect it's involuntary argument thrown out by Hyundai owners on the automatic assumption they're going to be criticised about it. It wasn't needed here.

Myy wife ran a 2.0 S3 for 4 years, and I agree with everything here: good quality, good value, good looking, mediocre at most things, suspension a bit crashy but also with quite poorly weighted driver inputs (ie steering, brakes). I did have some rust starting to appeara on the inside of the rear arches, but the steel was so thick it would be another decade before it emerged on the other side IMO.

We've now got an Alfa 156 T-spark, which is actually less practical, about as bad on fuel and works slightly less well, but handles way better with a much nicer feel to the car.

It was a close call against the gen7 Celica, but I just didn't like the wedge shape of it, and 3 series coupes were a lot more expensive.

Badge snobbery the biggest issue, then and now, already prevalent in this thread.

Prevalent - widespread in a particular area or at a particular time.
OK, apologies, a bit pre-emptive I guess, but it felt real enough at the time (2002-2007).

And it's hard to read "Hell no. I'd rather walk." any other way. smile

Slow. Thirsty. Ugly. No rust protection to speak of at all. Interior feels like a children's party in a pound shop. Everything. If it was all I could afford, I could walk, cycle, or bus, till something came up that was less unpleasant.

It's Pistonheads, surely there has to be something 'special' to make you care about your car if you frequent Pistonheads? Not feeling it here.

My ma has had a 2.0 SE from a year old - it is twelve years old now and is still going strong - though only has about 45k miles on it.

Not the greatest sports car, but it has been pretty reliable and hasn't rusted. Handing is so-so. The two litre engine is ok.

It's an OK car.

Genesis does have the performance to go with the coupe looks.

I know that was the plan but like the TT they were doing, they just seemed to disappear?

I always really liked the look of those. Thought it was a shame they chose not to sell them here.

I always thought these deserved to sell better than they did. Handling is hardly inspiring but no worse than the mk1 TT and other transverse front-engined competition. It's decent looking, has an engine that has character if not a huge amount of performance... sadly it also has a Hyundai badge. At that money, I can certainly see the appeal.

Completely the opposite in my opinion!

In fact, I'd go as far to say that if you didn't care about your car, no matter how mundane, is a clear sign you're not a car person. Every car I've owned I've treated with love and respect, regardless of their flaws.

Would have been too expensive to sell here, fuel mileage for the V6 is not very great. But it is fast (0-60 in the high 4 second range) and the build quality is miles ahead of other Hyundai's.

This is mine that I brought over, 2013, 348bhp, 8 speed auto, RWD. I honestly do not drive it very much, it mostly sits in the garage.

I always liked the look of these, I prefer the mk 2.5 to the mk3 though, sadly with regularly carrying rear seat passengers it's not an option right now and owning a 3rd car on a Terraced street would make me feel like an asshole.

They look half decent but...

Slow
Sound average
Boring inside
Boring to drive
Front wheel drive
Massively underpowered for engine size (most decent hot hatches with 4 pots out did it)

Just never saw why any one would buy one really.
