Regulary see 20 E on a Suzuki Swift in Rugby, which used to be on a Rover 25 a couple years ago.

Anyone know if H1 was recently sold (as in the last 10 years) and how much for?

Theres a fairly new Merc GLA in Glasgow with the plate AK47.

Whilst the car is not exactly cheap, the plate must be worth a fair bit more.
Used to be, as per the picture, on an early R107 AMG.

That is fantastic.

Haven’t a clue what the acronym means. Best ever seen personally were U2 on a nondescript Mini (possible belonging to the the wife of the Chairman of Exide Chloride Batteries U2 was the common regular battery then ,as it was in Rochdale ,and a very drab Mini Van in beige, with the seductive plate GET IN. Just seen the picture below this Merc seems in a poor shot to be 8 or 11.There is a well rehearsed shot of a moped with the Jersey or Gurnsey (does it mater?) reg. 2

I used to regularly see a silver 2003 Toyota Avensis with the number plate "H1" around Guildford, around 4/5 years back. It made me double take a few times!

Just did a quick check and it looks like it is now on an SL63 AMG which probably suits it a bit better laugh
Mentioned before on this thread. The owner was an elderly lady who lived in Hook Heath. The plate was on a Carina, then an Avensis when I used to see it.

I suspect she has died and hence the plate was sold.
OP asked about posh plate on un-posh car. Hence 1H much more appropriate on everyday Toyota.

Very interesting, always wondered what the market for plates was like in places like Guernsey - imagine it's simply a case of lower number = more money? '11' looks really cool, especially on the black plates.

Sometimes wonder if these plates on a proper snotter are some sort of potential inheritance tax avoidance.

When my father passed away we were simply asked to put a value on his car according to the make, model and year.....no one ever asked what the reg number was. In such a case a car would simply be passed to the new owner outlined in the will taking the market value of the car for IHT purposes.
I've taken advice on this and been informed it's a grey area as although a number plate making up part of a deceased estate may be of some substantial value the DVLA actually "owns" the number and any individual in possession of one only has the entitlement to display it.

At the time there was no definitive guidance either way from the Inland Revenue on how they'd view the value of a number plate for Inheritance Tax purposes so rather than get into a fight over whatever it was worth was taxable or not mine was transferred to me under the 7 year potentially exempt rule to take it out of an estate thereby avoiding any IHT liability on it's value.

I've had it for much longer than that now so it's entirely free of tax. And I'm fairly certain it easily fits the criteria for this thread too. smile

Which is why friends have the V5s of their classics in the name of their children, and why the children pay the insurance too. "Not mine officer".

The car my plate is on hardly fits any classic criteria...

If somebody really, really liked the colour and really, really wanted a lardy 19 year old Barge with a serious drink problem in their life it's sale value might perhaps just nudge into four figures. The reason it's on there is I get through daily Sheds almost as fast as my grandson gets through shoes and if the plate was on one of those instead I'd be constantly forking out the £80 transfer fee.

Yes mostly, although 007 went for a huge sum, black and silver look great, assume they're not legal in the UK.

And whoever fitted it couldn't even be arsed to get it on straight. Perfect.

I'll bet the Plateistas are having a coronary over that one... biggrin

Aside from the fact it's clearly a valuable plate on a car worth little which is great, I love the fact said plate from a distance reads "FAG", which is a suitable adjective for the motor it's adorning. Excellent stuff.
