Where would be best to get a rough value of a plate? Curious how much the mrs's is worth.
We'll need to see some pictures to give you an idea.... wink

Next question.
At uni in London in the 80s I saw A1 on something very mundane - think it was a Montego - though admittedly it was outside the Ritz!

An eccentric gentlemen used to visit us at the dealership with his knackered old Civic of 1990's vintage. It had a book full of main dealers stamps, but like its owner, it had seen better days. He was a bit of a standing joke because he always seemed interested in buying a new car, but never did (but he would quite happily occupy the time of any unsuspecting new salesperson for a good few hours).

I can't recall the exact plate, but it was a single letter and a single number. Our DP said that the old guy had told him that he had the plate valued and it was worth a few hundred thousand?

I quite admire the 'priceless plate on a shed' thing but have never quite figured out the reverse e.g. a neighbour has a three or four yr old BMW, adorned with a dateless Irish plate "EIZ ####" or something.

Presumably it was bought for buttons to disguise the age of the car and increase perceived value but seems to do the opposite. And no, the letters have no personal connection to driver or car.
Putting an irish plate on a Rolls Royce would make it look like a 1997 transit with england flags and rust all over it.

Report them to the police then as that plate has sat on a Audi R8 for at least a year
It used to be on the R8 but was definitely on the Cayenne last week and comes back on MyCarCheck as a Cayenne.

This is surely the perfect example of a numberplate worth more than the car, unless there are a lot of loons running this guy up....

Holy cow! I can see there is some value in the car being a bit of a classic but how the hell can 174 FLY be worth all that? (currently £45.6K!)
Try as I might I can't make it spell anything other than ............err.... 174 FLY?confused
Please enlighten me.....

FWIW I have my own cherished plate with 123 in the text and my kids are starting to notice "interesting" plates out on the road.
My wife on the other hand thinks the whole idea is stupid and snobbish, but each to their own I guess.

On the subject of registrations, British registered aircraft use the "G" prefix before a 4 letter block so I guess someone somewhere has G - SPOT on their aircraft. Anybody know who?

I think as already mentioned a lot could be sentimental "keepers". For example, a close family friend has JUD 1 which his Dad obtained many years ago and left it to him when he died. It's currently on a BMW 840 (not a shed!!) but before that was on a lovely but basically worthless E reg Polo Coupe.

Done some checks in the past and found some baffling ones; a plate I've always wanted - JJT 1 is on a 1999 Merc SLK 230. B3 CKY is on an 2004 Beetle!

I've seen JAM1E on a white pre2000s VW Polo (6N) fairly recently. MID is currently showing it on a Skoda Citigo SE laugh

One of our customers has FX 4 on his 2002 ish Mondeo.

I asked him about it the other day and apparently they come from a family member who was a Sheriff when cars were few and far between and was able to 'choose' a set of plates. The family own FX 1 through 5 iirc.

i love the fact that it does not computer for those that sum up someones worth by their car, I love a very valuable plate on a manky old hatchback, it upsets that pigeonholing, £500 car with 100 grand worth of plate, the observers think it should be on something suitably blinged up.

It might be people that arent rich but it is a family heirloom, or wealthy people who dont care about cars, I suspect they get offers to sell fairly often.

My wife has a 2 letter/2 number combo that belonged to her late father, bought in the fifties, cant really sell it and doesnt want it on a car, used to have it on a classic but not really her thing on a daily, I have no interest as it doesnt have any significance to me so I would just be putting it on to look flash, so its just on retention.

G-SPOT was on this funny looking thing until it was "destroyed" in 1989, and hasn't been used since. Not sure if "fish patrol" was a genuine notice or further shenanigans!

It does not compute because it's so common to see such plates on exotic cars.

PH's Facebook page has this article with a picture of P15 TON, which is on a 2014 E63 estate, I imagine that'd be worth a fair bit more than that reg
