They ought to have made a touring. Seriously, BMW, you make ridiculous X-cars..?
I think they struggled to shift the M5 estate so decided not to bother after that. Shame really, Audi and MB do well with fast estatesWhat ho chaps,
So finally woken up properly from arriving home at 6am on Friday morning.
2500 miles, 9 countries, 4 museums, 2 Milan parties gatecrashed and 1 Ring toured.
The £2k Z3 2.8 purchased for this trip performed absolutely impeccably. Couldnt fault her at all, lovely touring machine and settles into her stride at 140-150klicks quite nicely.
The 2 Donkey museums are ok, very heavy on shout shouty Grazie Enzo! side of things. They do the emotional heart strings thing quite well, though with respect Im not entirely sure its in the right way. I was brought up on the 40s-70s stuff because that was the main thrust of dad's library at home and I couldnt help think "fk me Enzo, but you killed most of these guys!" at a lot of the stuff on the vids.
The Alfa and Pork museums were excellent!
Alfa was very Mille Miglia history, passion and style. Very cool and stylish.
Pork was purely engineering geek heaven. Also more "fun" orientated. Less obsessed with "dont touch anything!" and even go telling groups of school kids if they break anything then ho hum, they will just fix it in the work shops!
Very good fun. Made a very welcome change actually doing this for enjoyment as opposed to charging around Europe for work.
Glad it was in the vanilla Z3 as opposed to the 4C, as I may have done some slightly stupid things at the Ring, as it was we just sat on the right hand side of the track as we let everyone blast past! Happy to be two (early) 40ish blokes pootling around in the evening sun and laughing as every mega 911 in Europe went hell for leather.
Almost managed to come back across the San Bernadino in glorious sunshine and empty roads!! Absolute miracle considering its normally chokka!

That 575 is nice. I do wonder where these prices are going in the mid-term and the extent to which prices will be impacted by Brexit. I can see 550s back to sub 75k for good cars pretty soon. They seem to be level with Testarossa prices if I'm not mistaken...probably similar production runs/supplywww.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/ferrari/...

Wow. Some rather lovely stuff in those museum pics.
That BMW M2/M3/M4 set of comments above got me browsing the classifieds - for no real reason.
Is this really a 360hp RWD 2 door 6 cylinder Coop for £12.5k? Are they any good? It's another car I didn't really like when it came out but that has grown on me.

An automatic turbo. Do not want.
The revelation from a few threadists a while back was that the N52 in the 125i can be chipped straight up to 272bhp. I'd rather that with a manual 'box that an N54 (esp. one with an auto box).
I think along those lines too then I'd just end up thinking buy the Z4.The revelation from a few threadists a while back was that the N52 in the 125i can be chipped straight up to 272bhp. I'd rather that with a manual 'box that an N54 (esp. one with an auto box).
Was browsing the classifieds myself and I think I would have to try this before the BMs - the £10k GT86 has arrived:

A simple exhaust and remap upgrade seems to wake up the engine, otherwise they seem ready for road and track fun.
