Not really, no. You need to look past that (think re-hash of every forum post you've read, ever) and enjoy the content for what it is. It's a printed version of this and the 1-5 thread you can flick through on the bog.

It also seems to have become a platform for people selling their cars - it's amazing how many of the featured cars are either already for sale, or appear in the classifieds the moment the mag lands on news stands.
I actually think much of it is quite reasonable, and although obviously biased over the feature with my M5 I think that article by Chris Chilton (ex AutoCar staffer) was very well written with some good detail. The photography was also excellent.

Currently using E60 545i for wafting duties. Was second car, but gave up company car 4 years back and run 25-35k a year without issue.

Due for change now so Looking at the E55/E63 or replacements, always admired the noises made. Some Interesting offerings on here for sure!
Similar boat here. I've got the E61 550i touring. The extra 400cc makes this much more superior to yours - maybe. Anyway it's a difficult act to follow. My requirements are enough go to excite and a big ass boot. I've been heavily focused on BMW offerings which is why I bought an E91 335i touring. It's a bit smaller so feels a bit more chuckable but now I'm wandering if this is not adventurous enough. I've been fondly looking at the nearly new E63 estates with the blown 5.5 but wandering if this is a bit much as they're 30 plus. I could always go the C63 route in estate form but I'm not so keen on the boxey nature of the 2010 - 2012 Merc range. I recently stumbled across a B8 S4 with the 3.0 supercharged engine which had been tweaked by MRC to produce almost 500 bhp and thought hmm that's some good go for the right side of 20k - well it's the right side of 15k.

One of my little pipe dreams I'll get round to when I've sold my company is to start a top quality car mag. The vision is thick paper, long form articles a la Llewellin / Bulgin / Setright, published 4 times a year. No advertising. Amazing photography. It would lose/cost more money than an S65 on linglongs but it would be worth it.

Would it cost more than £10 each? Not sure how this one is doing...

Real voices, i.e. talent, is very rare. What I'm imagining is nothing like a forum, more like a cross between the spectator, Alan clarks diaries and supercar classics.

Ahh yes those elusive 400cc's I miss! Offset by the touring bodyshell perhaps ?!

The E63s also came with 6.2 n/a engine, which is one I'm thinking; around 20k Mark at moment. Engine will last another decade with proper servicing, and then just standard maintenance.
Just my opinion, but c63 interior seemed bit plastic compared with e class. It would be perfect otherwise.
Did look at F30 335i, but not quite wafty enough as more sporty. Also I missed the extra size for family duties (wife/baby/outlaws) .Most weeks I'm putting in 3x250 mile round trips, some more (700 round trip last week, 1320 for the week).
I'm a BMW fan too, Was thinking of 5GT up till recently. A lot of car for money, but can't find spec I'd want (550i !)
So perhaps a change of badge is in order, taste the forbidden fruit!

The era of e63 with the 6.2 just looks a bit boxey to me but I suppose if it goes well i can overlook. I had an F30 335i with KERS called an active hybrid 3. It just didn't excite. Possibly due to dull steering and run flats. They're not that small you know. There is always the x5m too which has the 550 bhp m5 engine. 5gt is ugly as sin. I'd prefer s simple 5. M5 is not far off 20 grand - is your limit hard?

What do you think of the tweaked s4 - too small for You?

PH classifieds has a couple of low miles E63 estates with the 6.2, albeit at strong prices.

Or high miles ones at very reasonable prices. Not sure if the 2010 one is a real price or not - 113k miles but only £19k

Were it not for the lady of the house hating estates and preferring SUVs I'd have one of these AMGs for the family bus.

Good man!

Early CLK55s and E55s feature heavily in my eBay watchlist, just to see what that engine is like.
Thanks, yes it's all about that engine for me too. If the rest of the car falls apart then there's always the option to transplant it into a C-class Sport Coupe! wink

This month's Modern Classics may be of interest to Funf fans...

Nice, look forward to a read of that. Don't ever recall a contemporary UK test between the M-er and a B10 or a B7 Turbo, but there must have been one

Had an E39 M5, plus f10 530d (co car) and e60 m5 for 6 months. X5 would be out if budget for the generation I'd want. 2012 cars are still older platform, and same instrument panel as I have now. Wouldn't feel like a change, good shout though as they sound epic!

Friend has a4 and I've had a few spins. Nice interior but I just didn't love it. Had an a6 avant for a month which was nice, still rear space wasn't great. S6 ticks the boxes, just out of reach ( budget is 15-17, but I could plead ignorance to wifey at 20k purchase!!)

Thanks Braddo, they're in the "watchlist"!
Agree with ATM about the squareness, that 211 looks classy. Not bothered about tech in them, heated seats and cruise is all I need! I assume that 211 had same engine as the early 212's?

The 90k er? Yes had noticed but not been in. I spend more time gazing at the Galaxy/Stingray/Continental by the car wash.

Sorry, meant the 924. I'd be interested to see how much rawer they are than a 944.
And yes would be very curious to sample the original Magnum motor.

211 does look better to me than 212 but is 211 of the era which rusted?

I've been wondering for a while what's the cheapest way into an AMG, and now think I may have found it - well in terms of purchase anyway! Plan is to get a few bits tidied over the winter and then rock down to the likes of the LeMans Classic again next summer in it, boot full of tents and the like - assuming it makes it that far biggrin

Should be picking it up next week, so will be drinking plenty of Dr Pepper before then!

Loving this.
It's got me trawling AT.

There seem to be some cheap 63 mercs kicking round if genuine. Maybe the hand made engine disintegrates spectacularly. I spotted this CL63 earlier -
