That black GTi does look pretty cool.

Without getting all whistful, was there more specialness to the hot models in the car line-ups back then due to the rest of the range being pretty staid? Whereas now you can get any car in the MS/S-Line/AMG-look/etc. without it being the halo item? Or are we so used to nice cars that they've lost their wow factor?

A bit of period review-ery, from PC Nov '87:

Whereas what we really need is a 300bhp R19 16v. That'd focus the mind!

Was never a BX person, but remember dad taking us to try out an XM back in the day and I was amazed at how comfy and nice it was and it shifted!

I've been to see vanilla Boxster (non-S) today and I am Rather Smitten. It won't happen without selling the Frogeye, which means it probably won't happen at all even though I hardly ever use it, but all the same. Any idea where might I find a decent up-to-date buyer's guide? Is the Hartech one still where it's at, or are there other resources?

Should probably ask in the pork fora but it's comfy in here smile

I'll add, if you can get a pre-purchase inspection of some sort by someone who knows these then do it.

I got one for mine at Motortune and the seller (trader) ended up forking out over £1000 based on what they found.

Thanks. I noticed it's latterly been serviced at Motortune. It's nowhere near there now though.

I love them! Big wheels that ruin ride and handling hold no appeal for me whatsoever.

I find the ride is still very firm with 17's although I'm on Sport Contact 3's which, according to cmoose, are very firm.

When I had a Mini I specced it on 15" pepper pots rather than the usual 16s or 17s for the same reason. So the size doesn't bother me at all, I just like some of the other styles a little more. These are still fine though.

Probably the most comfy Group B entry with that hydropneumatic suspension.

"Too Fast To Rally"?

A 4TC was auctioned in France a few years back for €30k-odd, which must have been by far the cheapest way into a GrpB road-car. Think it got resold last year for nearer €50k

Somewhat ironic as it's one of the rarer ones too, due to Citroen trying to erase its own history

After a little go in Moose's Croc on 17's recently, I took the plunge and bought a cheap set off ebay for mine. For the road they are a lot better than the 19's, combined with the Ohlins you can really feel what the chassis is doing now and the extra sidewall and unsprung weight reduction is tangible, the car can be 'enjoyed' at more sensible speeds but grip is still ample. The 19's will go back on for track day duties with some Cup 2's. It's an even better all rounder now.

Straight fit or spacers required?

Yes sorry forgot to mention that, it needs spacers on the front to clear the calipers so the car now has 8mm all round.
