What about a sub-£20k manual C4S?: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

For me the best looking of all watercooled 911, and a good few pub dinners cheaper than a widowmaker in the current market
Aren't these bestowed with the plastic engine?

I do use winters, even with which I find an M3 somewhat limited.

I've not driven a C2 or 4 for about 10 years. Last 996 I drove was a GT3.2

Would a 996 be dailyable for 365?

Oh course a 996 is a 365 daily ffs.
I use my 4C as a daily, in and out of deepest darkest muddiest Devon and that is a hell of a lot less practical than a 996!

(Just avoid the potholes that ripped the wheel off the Cayenne the week before Xmas and left my wife stranded at midnight)

I did a long journey in a 996 C2 manual a few weeks ago and loved every minute of it.

One thing that has moved on since though is nvh in my opinion but not enough that would be off putting as a daily.

My old 986 was a daily and it was pretty much perfect.

Eye wood.

There is plenty of weight over the back wheels in a 996 so pulling away from standstill should be good in snow. That's the main problem I have in my BMW cars.

A reason why the V6 Exige was so good, even on its track tyres.

The rear wheel arch gap on the 512 is all kinds of wrong

Still would though. Not at £325k... half that and yes I'd be in

Odd how many rear arches look crap on Ferraris.

I have/do which is what gives rise to urges now and again.

Wouldn't a 996 C2 need a fair few upgrades to bring it up to scratch as a driver's car?

I am thinking bushes, engine mounts, suspension, flywheel etc.

It depends on your definition of a driver's car as the standard package is good.

That sounds a bit niche for what I'd consider to be a fairly general concept in 'driver's car'.

Indeed, the danger there is that it becomes a tad too focused as a daily drivet

Manual 993 C4S - they're pricey these days, but I love them. Nearly traded my CSL for a low-mile Arena one a few years back when they were a similar value, but TipT put me off.

I'd probably be erring on the side of 997 gen 2 instead of throwing £15 - 20k at my early 996 if we're talking day to day 911.

My 996 (C2, manual) has been my daily for 10 years, averaging over 10k a year (now on168k Miles).

Copes with pretty much everything - though it’s a bit scarey in snow on regular tyres (zero front end grip).

Only real issue with covering a lot of miles in what is now an 18 year old car is the running costs mount up - can get some big bills to keep it in good order.

Problem is most will be worn out by now so rather than replace, you may as well upgrade the necessary bits. I have spent over £5k on an E36 328 so a 996 would probably need more chucked at it.

So you're heading towards double the money in terms of initial outlay.
