Apropos of nothing but most Racing Pumas I have seen have FRP plates so an easy mistake to make

I'm sure I'll see it next time I'm on my way to work, it's just parked at the side of the road, is used quite often too.

There's also a *ahem* lovely 1.4 Puma with a massive pie rack, luminous green wheels, hilariously oversized mudflaps and MONSTER branding over all of the bodywork too.

I'm sure that person feels rather happy with himself whenever the 'boring' blue FRP nips past...

It was accidentally deleted by a mod after a spam attack.
Big Al revived it this morning. Lots of people had to manage without it for almost a whole weekend wink

Evening

Bit of advice please; SL has a flat battery (combination of slipping belt, infrequent short journeys and coldness) and I need to charge it.

It’s currently (ha ha) on my dining room floor. Do I need some super high tech multi-amp digital battery charger or just a simple 6 amp job from Argos? (Hint; I am leaning towards the Argos option)

Also the car yard I bought it from fitted a new battery prior to sale and it’s a proper MB job. A bit surprised at that but very pleased.

Oh and I thought I could tolerate a squeally belt until it goes in for an MOT in a couple of weeks. I was wrong.

TIA thumbup

Argos cheapy will do the job, But something like this is much better for your battery (this one, and all the others). I have one and it's great. Can also be left plugged in to condition and top up the battery without overcharging.

Thanks JC
All MB forums rave about the Ctek ones but I don’t have a garage or power to my drive. I am considering a solar powered conditioner at some point though.

Nor do I. smile

I run an extension lead through a window (or letterbox), across the pavement and out to the charger next to the battery in a car sat on the road. nuts

Can you supercharge the 1.7 Zetec? Must be a kit from somewhere.
I'm not in touch with Ford scene much now but a company called Puma sport put Focus MK1 RS engines into these.

If you want the ultimate Puma ,you stick a RWD or 4WD Cosworth under it.

ETA.....Puma speed not sport.

Nothing on their site about engine conversions for these ,bit old hat now I suppose.

Me too. Found my 550i completely flat after not using the car for at least 2 months. Jump started it to move it nearer to the drive. Overnight on the Halfords charger conditioner and its all good again. As the battery is in the boot you can see lights on the charger through its rear window so i know its charged before i blip the blipper to unlock.

I can lend you a Ctek if that helps?

A CTEK is a maintainer / conditioner rather than a charger. You need a certain amount of voltage in the battery for it to work. If you're getting the 'click' of a solenoid ie. there is not enough current to turn the starter but you are getting lights on the ignition, a CTEK may do the job, otherwise you need a proper charger.

There's no reason not to try a maintainer first and see how you get on.

CTEK is a charger as well.

The MXS 5.0 is an advanced microprocessor controlled battery charger which gives unrivalled performance for lead acid batteries from 1.2-110Ah. It comes with automatic temperature compensation built in which ensures the best charging performance, even in the most extreme conditions. The MXS 5.0 also includes battery diagnosis to establish whether your battery can receive and retain a charge, patented automatic desulphation program, an AGM option which maximises the performance life of most Stop/Start batteries and a special Recond mode for reconditioning deeply discharged batteries. The MXS 5.0 uses CTEK’s patented float/pulse system, which is the most efficient maintenance mode when a battery is connected for long periods.

I've had situations where the CTEK wouldn't work when the car was 100% dead due to eg lights being left on for days. In that situation, I put jump leads on, left for half an hour (as wouldn't start even with jump), then successfully jump started, drove around for half an hour, stopped car, put on CTEK, CTEK worked. YMMV is all I'm saying.

For something that isn’t a charger it does an awfully good job of getting a completely flat battery up to operating voltage within half an hour of hooking it up.
