I like the idea of a 1.6 S3 Elise as a daily driver (except I don't like the idea of needing a daily driver hehe ).
They (Lotus) offered a Performance Pack (dealer fit) of TRD airbox and sports exhaust but imho all that was needed was the TRD.

Bloody loved that car

I like the idea of standard exhaust and opened induction. Quiet when you want in everyday driving, a good snort in the ear on heavy throttle.

One of my favourite memories of track days is hearing induction noise from Alfa twincams at Alfaholics track days. earscloud9

Talking of commutes its amazing how much stuff like this affects our car obsessions. I'm now living half my time in a new location. Yes I'm being deliberately coy about specifics. Anyway the news is this - traffic is very busy everywhere i look and almost gridlocked at rush hour, gone are the winding country lanes which were 2 minutes away from the previous place. Its not London but it is border line awful. That's why I'm now uninterested - well sort of uninterested - in my 996 and looking at lard ass coupes like the e64 or cl55/600. I don't want to be that guy but i just can't help it.

Why bother having a big V8 or V12 idling away in traffic? Why not just pick up an E220CDi for those duties?

I quite like the idea of a convertible to break up the boredom and found myself admiring a new 4 series convertible yesterday. The back looks better to me with the folding roof up compared to the standard coupe. So yes i guess an e class, a5 or 4 series with a small diesel could all be in the mix.

This. I'm not a vert man generally but I like certain examples. I would not, however, be interested in the prospect of a jam in one though.

That said ATM, I totally get how circumstances shape your priorities, even if there is a strong undercurrent of motoring enthusiasm to satisfy as well. Horses for courses. I'd love a 500E / other W124 / R129 (or something else) for schlepping and a 911 / Lotus (other examples available) for swooshing duties. As I'm about to be in a city having been rural for a while, I'll need something that bisects that particular Venn Diagram with attainable levels of precision (and "on street park-ability") hehe

Doesn't have to mean PDK, no. My old 986S made a decent fist of inner-city Wandsworth.

Not sure I could face a two-pedal solution on something that isn't barge-ish, even allowing for the pointlessness of DIY de-clutching en traffiques. Not sure I could stand having a barge without a foil.

I am a fickle so and so hehe

Plus the cut and thrust of urban driving means you need to cut out of junctions with thrust!

All this talk of Elises has only gone and reignited my hankering for a K-series equipped S2. I really rather like the old K series engine, VVC for preference... well it's that or Stockholm Syndrome biggrin

Ref Elises;

One of my favourite daily drivers was a 135R. Such a well balanced package.

An S2 111S is a lovely thing too. Subtle exhaust upgrade, induction kit and jobs a good 'un.

S1 or S2 135R?

I'm now out of my Sport 160, I part-xed it for the 993RS
