Gents, could anyone recommend an E39 specialist in Manchester/The NW.

My 523i Touring is running a little lumpy around 1.5K revs.

Thanks
I was very happy with Darren Wood in Stockport when I had my E46 and E91 smile

Apparently the X3 35d has the comparable Macan licked in every department except image... Cayenne - it would have to be a Turbo - the X5 is genuinely fast for an SUV 0-60 in 5.9 according to the ‘Mericans who loved it during group tests back in the days. A Turbo Cayenne is at least mid-30s for a decent one...

I was just staggered by the apparent value for money in the form of FFRR. I absolutely hate the RRS in all its forms, Discos (except the early ones, but they are even older than the X5) and my other pet hate - the Evoque. I have always liked the original RR, the P38 was a monumental turd - had a mate with one from new - and now the L322 appeals both as a design and massive waftiness, and opulence for a sensible amount of dough.

Despite Mrs Cheb’s protestations, an X5M is in the running - pointless, I know... But the FFRR struck me as a car which is appropriate now, that I have just gone the wrong side of 40 and I have plenty of other cars in various garages Ha! to provide entertainment....

It would have to be the 4.4 I am afraid If I take it further. No replacement for displacement and also, buy cheap buy twice.

HM did a nice vid on his Vogue...

https://youtu.be/gl51reRXxgE

I'm the other way, a modern (2014) Vogue with 40k on the clock and a 2 year RR warranty can be had for £40k off any JLR forecourt. Old enough to have the problems ironed out and new enough with enough warranty for peace of mind. I think a year's extension to the warranty is about £1200, so figure depreciation and you can run a proper Range Rover for around £20k for three years.

That's pretty cheap luxury which ever way you slice it.

Hard to argue with. I like the L322 but the current model is even nicer in my view. £40k still a long stretch for me at this point (plus being in Da Ville = automatic drug dealer motif for anything with kerb-hopping ground clearance)

Here is a bit of a head fk one...

Mrs Cheb wants a new car, but she loves the X5 4.8iS that we currently use. New shape - no thanks. E70 is too big for her. Hence I had a sneaky look at 2013 X3s. It has to be a 35d MSport. Anyway, it appears that £25k will buy you an 2013 Approved Used X3 with all the bells and whistles with about 30k on the clock.

Then for whatever reason I looked at FFRRs. Gosh! The same £25k buys me a 2012 4.4TDV8 FFRR Westminster with 33k on the clock. Ok, not from Land Rover, but still? Are they really that ste that no one wants them? Or are they the bargain of the century? Ok it is big, but Mrs Cheb loves the design and thinks it will be a classic one day... Shall I go and drive one? Or just keep the iS, which dynamically puts most other SUVs to shame even today...
What is the ride quality on the 4.8is? Always wondered whether the big wheels make it too stiff.

£15k gets you a nice 3.6 twin turbo diesel, the JLR unit before the 2010 facelift. My mate Harry Metcalfe reckons that's the one to go for, although economy on the 4.4 is undoubtedly better, £10k buys a lot of fuel. Plus you can remap the 3.6 for more economy.
The 4.4 TDV8 has more differences than you might imagine - it’s quite a lot quicker, considerably more refined (engine/box aside, too - the 2010 facelift brought changes to soundproofing etc. as well as the adaptative damping which makes them a bit sharper, TFT dash etc.). The pre-facelift 3.6 definitely feels more rugged (can’t think of a better way to describe it) though.

Did they solve the engine issues which so badly plagued earlier versions? I can remember numerous discussions on the thread about the 2.7's frailties.

2.7 (now 3.0) is the V6 version of the Ford Lion family, wasn’t put into the L322 (old straight six diesel is BMW M57) - the current ones seem to have crank issues. TDV8 problems generally seem to be turbo and EGR-related (although 3.6 and 4.4 are different from each other in this respect).

3.0 TDV6, 4.4 SDV8, 5.0 Supercharged at launch (you can have the supercharged V6 here now, which replaced the NA V8 elsewhere).

Totes (including the Velar - although I hear they're all leased diseasals hehe ) yes

1. FFRR
2. Something smallish and sporty (Cayman or a Lotus Evora / Exige etc.)

Done.

(Ok, my fantasy garage probably has at least 100 different vehicles in it, but as a realistic two car solution, that'll do Stig, that'll do.)

Lovely! smile

I'd never noticed before that narrow-body Rufs have whale-tails instead of tea-trays. Wonder how that works in terms of the intercooler (that later 930s need)
