What's to say which version of the period car should be reflected at Goodwood?
How about where two versions of the same car exist, one of which has been recently built from scratch as a facsimile (where they “share” a chassis number, and the paying public is never told of the new car’s existence)?
That's the issue for me. We're effectively talking about cloning.

One hastily typo’d touchscreen debacle of a post and look at the proverbial can of worms writhing hehe

I’m fine with replicas done well (some sympathy / respect / taste) but I am no expert (I drive a clapped AW11 after all). Do I object to period correct recreations racing with “originals”? I’m not so sure I mind so long as they look, steer and sound as they should bar a tad less patination (nice though the latter is). Should organisers / racers etc. say something honest about provenance? As a matter of principle, yes absolutely and especially so when that historical connection is unambiguously part of the deal, if not the USP. OTOH, provided it’s enjoyable and reasonably honest it’s no big deal for mere mortals like me (all for authenticity here but also sustainability and pragmatism).

That green thing is giving me a crisis btw JC. Thanks for that!

>500bhp 944 eh? Where did I put my Millennium Falcon... hehe

That’s about as well resolved cosmetically as a 996 wearing a 997 bodykit. Im sure it drives well but it’s a dog’s dinner on the outside.

Yep, I'm not sure on the look of these lastest throwback Rufs at all

This, on the other hand...

Morning.

Ref the green Ruf; I feel as though it should work but it doesn't in my eyes.

The XJ done for Nicko McBrain is much better albeit not perfect. The wheels and steering wheel are not great but I love the fact he has had it done. The way the bumpers/exhausts/etc are executed are very nicely done. Something 'like' that would be a fantastic thing and with some subtle changes would be pretty much perfect for me. The retropower XJC looks better resolved so I would combine the best of both personally......

A KWE tweaked XJ saloon would do me I think in a real world budget

Fair play to Ruf for introducing a new generation to TSW Blades, though.

And mein Gott, an XJC is a lovely thing.

Oh I don't deny that the Ruf is a technological triumph and I bet it is fantastic to drive and put together exquisitely but the looks just look a bit off to me, the rear for example looks odd and a bit like its been left to close to a hot radiator

I'm not entirely sure I want a Singer either, just look a bit too much if you see what I mean. Prefer a much more period looking 911.

The Singer ain't a minger. But I don't think the Ruf a wrong 'un, even if I get that it's not as "right" aesthetically as something with smaller wheels and a less "futuristically smooth" exterior finish. Modern headlamps I can tolerate as I like to see where I'm going but I think the main appeal of the SCR is the engineering / size. That mechanical specification is mouthwatering and appeals more than a 911R for me (I really like factory Pork but I also like modified / re-engineered cars, sue me). As much or more than a Singer? That only depends on the price if you can't afford it (I'll admit that my pintrest is like and epic game of singer pix pokemon interspersed with other retromods and some classics hehe )

You can take the boy (me) out of Sofia, but you cannot take out the Eastern European out of me...

Guenther Werks for me please

Of all the Porsche 'mega builders', I'd take a Singer over any of them. I've seen one up close, and they are just exquisite!

I'm sure the RUF is a technical masterpiece, and will drive well, but it just doesn't look right to me. The Gunther Werks 400 isn't for me either - not really a fan of 993's, and it looks too much like an RWB.

However, my preference would be 964, backdated to ST body shape, with mechanicals (to my specific spec) by Tutill, and a road suitable interior. Should be doable for well under half the price of a Singer.

I'd be perfectly happy with a mildly tweaked 964 and not bother with backdating.

Hmm, tweaked 964 or sorted 3.0SC....... scratchchin

I think the only reason the RUF looks a little off is the headlight and the indicators.

the headlights should not have clear lenses, and the indicators should be thicker and amber

I think that would go some way to making it work better. The rear end work well I think
