Exactly this Would defo be partial to a 997 4.0 or 911 R if they were available. If Porsche / subsidiary / licensee X knocked out as new bare-bones, sensibly suspended and wheeled 964-alikes with 300-350bhp they could Shirley make a mint. no idea of feasibility of likely list price but imagine it would be eye-watering. You would at least have a new and warranted car with genuinely no-to-low miles
I still like the Ruf though - I'm pleased it exists even I'll never drive / own one. It looks cool on paper / in the weave and is no doubt a bit of a giggle. Needs smaller wheels with more dish though
ETA: Put away the obscene pix Loon! For heaven's sake man - think of the children!

You also get more speakers in a JCW - I actually thought my stereo had an issue before realising Bertone had ditched the rears! Supercharger whine makes up for it though
Supercharger whine definitely injects some additional aural intrigue / urgency. I like very much. I only put up with the fact it's a pram because its the S model .I quite like the car from the rag-top (this one is tired and very noisy / uncooperative and I'm not massively into driving top-down (not due ruling out verts completely - in the right context I can deal, although I prefer a hardtop generally). I think tempting her a into a modded MCS / JCW might be doable, assuming no-one wants to offer me something teutonic and estate-flavoured or a 911 The race season is getting nearer...
So I was thinking I had kind of gone off cars...
... went to my local friendly Eastern European bodyshop to collect the race 928...
... did I say I thought I had gone off cars?
... there it was. Hunkered low down, looking menacing. Giant steamroller wheels tucked inside the new GTS Kevlar/GRP rear arches. Ready, looking for a fight...
... I climb over the roll-cage and wiggle my 6'6" frame in the race seat. Whoa! It is snug. The alcantara on the Steering wheel... Brings back memories of gripping it with sweaty hands as we rumbled on the cool down lap at Spa... I fumble with the cut-off switch... Click! Soft glow from the dash. Turn the key, the starter whirs and the high compression 5.4ltr lump catches instantly. What follows is an explosion of noise and lots of mechanical parts finely meshing together... This engine runs sharp cams and does not like to idle... I stab the throttle in an attempt to get it to settle into something calmer... The results is comical - the whole car rocks - the V8 makes 600Nm peak... Clunk, engaging first feels like I am loading a Manlicher rifle - pure mechanics, no slack in the rose jointed shift linkage... I gently rest my foot on the throttle, while my left foot is attempting to modulate the ceramic four-puck clutch... Somehow, despite the protestations of the drive-train we are moving...
Alas the joyride is a very short one... With a bit of Walter Rohr-esque dance on the gas/clutch the 928 climbs on its trailer...
... one last glance at the dash - all gauges show we are good... With a sigh I shut her down...
... I am in love again...
