Saw FLU 5H today - maybe someone who works in the janitorial area, or a poke player, or just a bit rich. On a middle management Merc.

I keep seeing "Personal number plates are now considered to be like fine wines, classic cars - an alternative investment." For a lucky few maybe, I'm not convinced.

These two that I snapped a good few years back cropped up on my facebook thing today.

For a company I think that company related plates are good in a marketing sense. For Chanel to get NO 5 is genius (for those not aware Allure is also a Chanel perfume)

I wouldn't really trust it when it's being said from a company that has something to gain from plates costing more money

No,but I think it's fair to say the vast majority of good numbers have out performed many other investments over the last 15/20 years...! On a personal view i have a small collection of plates which I know have increased many many X over... and there's no running costs and a bit of fun at the same time... Win Win...!

Have you actually had firm offers for them? I think you can make a profit on plates bought ages ago, before they came the in thing, but these days, not so sure. Seen a lot of desirable plates up for sale, that never seem to get sold.

Yes.. one particular plate I've had two very serious offers on over the year's,one in writing which apparently still stands to this day which is considerably more than i paid for it,but i have no desire to sell it...

I agree, I have two fairly reasonable plates (one issued in 1945 and 1953) and both have done very well over the 20 years I've owned them. However at the moment I think the market has softened slightly, so it might be a good time to buy one. Anyway like Craig, I've enjoyed them and not really interested in selling, just nice to know they've appreciated in value.
