See that quite often on my morning commute when I pass Himley Hall, I think he also owns a Range Rover with another PJ plate.

Yes.. one particular plate I've had two very serious offers on over the year's,one in writing which apparently still stands to this day which is considerably more than i paid for it,but i have no desire to sell it...
Number plates are like diamonds - ridiculously common and everywhere, with a 'perceived' value touted by interested parties being owners and dealers. Likewise the reality is the vast majority are not really worth much. Many decent ones (2 letters / 2 numbers) will likely have a stagnant return. The elite 2 digit ones will always be desirable.

My reason to buy is to entertain myself, which may be CRA2Y. Anyone who disagrees can BL16GER off.

Have you actually had firm offers for them? I think you can make a profit on plates bought ages ago, before they came the in thing, but these days, not so sure. Seen a lot of desirable plates up for sale, that never seem to get sold.

I suppose the potential market for CRA 1G might continue as it's also a surname but can't help thinking it'll diminish as fewer people are named Craig nowadays. Same with names such as Sue; diminishing in popularity so surely the value of those plates will wane overtime.
It always seems that people over-value their own plates.

As do some dealers.

There remains a plate for sale with one of the big companies, which has been for sale at £19k more than it sold at auction for in 2003.

Let's just say the two serious offers I've had over the year's (bearing in mind it's not advertised anywhere..!) Have been six figure sums...but as I've said i have no desire to sell it...I've had the pleasure of displaying it on some of my cars for nearly 30 year's now and i can't see that changing in the near future....

There are far too many chav plates around, miss spaced and messed around with. That's what makes it look like there are so many around. The good ones still stand out and people are still willing to pay good money for the right ones. What's more surprising is people who pay good money for plates that have to be miss spaced to mean anything

If the plate was put on in 2004.... and the car has changed hands twice in that time... why on earth has no one stripped it of it's plates?!
£10'000 plate on a worthless car - that's the way to do it.

Possibly not transferable and the owner wanted to change the car more than they wanted to hold onto the plate?

Saw one of the best plates I've seen in ages yesterday.
NEV 15 on a BMW X5 parked in the Nevis Restaurant at the foot of Ben Nevis!
