Real Good Number Plates vol 5

Bought a plate from an online dealer earlier this week. Today I received a v778 in the post it is signed by the seller on section 1 and section 6 and the rest is blank for me to fill in. Is this the normal process? It might sound like a stupid question but haven't bought a plate like this before usually only through the DVLA.
The plate is for my girlfriends car would it be ok to keep on retention like this for a while (wasn't planning on putting it on for a while) or should I put it onto the car and then tranfer it back off (and pay another £80) so it's in her name?
Reason I ask I don't want to leave anything to chance here and lose out
Are you putting it straight on your car? If so you can do it on line as you only need the relevant long document reference number on the v778 to assign it. In fact there is a weakness because whoever's details are on the v778 it doesn't stop anyone else assigning it to their vehicle with the serial number! I know because I bought a reg, got the v778 and realised the issue so went online and transferred it straight to my car in 2mins. All I needed off the seller was that number! The plate is for my girlfriends car would it be ok to keep on retention like this for a while (wasn't planning on putting it on for a while) or should I put it onto the car and then tranfer it back off (and pay another £80) so it's in her name?

If you're keeping it on retention you 'can' be added to the form but the original 'assignee' retains the rights. Theoretically he could 'sell' you the v778 and at a point in the future still assign the number!
The only way to take 'ownership' is to transfer it to your car and then take it off on retention if you want to keep it that way.
What fun people could have if sellers erroneously display that particular number in the picture on eBay. With the V5 doc ref number those are the only two pieces of information needed to do it online

Starting with all these plates that people have paid millions for actually being absolutely worthless.

The whole cherished numbers thing is a can of worms.

As with everything in life they are worth what someone is willing to pay.Starting with all these plates that people have paid millions for actually being absolutely worthless.
Imagine the scenario: Let's ban all the sale of all petrol cars in 20 years.
Initial thought: Not a chance.
Reality: OMG, that's what they've done.
Different scenario: Let's totally change the number plate system so it's only letters. Everybody will be issued with a new number within the next 12 months.
Initial thought: Not a chance.

The mantra on Planet Earth just a couple of years ago was "petrol for ever".
I've got a few on retention, but I know that they are potentially just bits of paper with absolutely no intrinsic value.
Someone will buy them, though. I sold an analog TV on eBay for more than I paid two months before analog was switched off .

The dvla make too much money from number plates. If they pull a stunt like that they'll be the ones to lose out in the long run I've got a few on retention, but I know that they are potentially just bits of paper with absolutely no intrinsic value.

Liking this guys priorities. Put a deposit on a big detached house leaving only enough for a cheap car? No way. Get a terrace, pave the front garden, and stick a brand new Aston with a wildly expensive plate on it. Edit - just checked it was £3.2m.

At the risk of returning to the subject, just seen "5 FFF" which no doubt means something to someone.
777 AV - can't remember what on.
7 RU - Mitsubishi Warrior (I think)
JAV 1R - Range Rover
I actually bid on the TWO 80B plate as I really wanted it. But £10,000 was strong money. I liked the plate though!
