I wonder if there is a way of putting plates back into the DVLA auction and taking the money? The prices some sell for is just bonkers and will never be realised elsewhere.

How you can arrive at £2,100 +VAT/fees for J65 PER is beyond me. It would be lucky to clear a 10th of that in eBay. And that's part of the problem a plate may be worth that to an individual but finding a buyer who values it the same is not easy. Hence loads of inflated prices of plates that never sell. That said if you write the money off fair enough.

I won it by £30 so it wasn't just me after it. Ive also got no plans to sell it. so the money has gone. Its equivalent to smoking for 6 months which plenty do.

Bizarrely everyone who knows me and I've shown it to was gobsmacked its was 'only' that much. And that includes parents and inlaws both of which aren't interested in that sort of thing. Its more than i wanted to pay but its done now.

Some plates take literally years to sell privately as well.it seems owners/companies sit on them until they get they get what they want.

I know a friend/company who had p4ver. He's had it for about 20 years and its been for sale since day 1. He wanted 10k. Last year he got it.

I missed out on 1980 j a few years back. Bottled it so to speak. Sold for 2500 plus fees etc. Reg transfers want something like 8k for it. I offered 4500 and they refused. So I'm guessing they will sit on it until someone fancies spending nearly 10 grand on it hehe

I'm not going to divulge figures.....but l've had my plate near on 30 years, and it's not for sale... but I've had two very substantial offers for it one through a solicitor in writing,i don't know how they acquired my details.? But one thing is for sure it's probably one of the best investments I've ever made........ and at the same time it's all a bit of Fun......party

I put a fairly chunky offer in on ADA 11S but had it swiftly turned down despite my offer being 4 times what was paid for the plate at auction.

Cor, you lot are harsh on here hehe

You see i think ja55por looks nothing like jasper. Neither does the 9k plate j445per. Of course id love j45per but i reckon this is the best ill get. of course a 6 isn't an a but imo the plate reads jasper, without having to have silly spacings or funny shaped letters/bolts.

Anyway, i reckon some of you lot might not observe these dvla auctions. Some of the sold prices for complete tat that needs butchering sell for incredible amounts of money.

I saw g50 rge, it was on about 7.5k plus fees the day before auction end so i don't know what it went for.
That much

J445 PER sold for £1200 in 2009, so it's definitely not a £9k plate.
J455 PER was £900 in 2008.

9k is what reg transfers now want for it,

Some of their prices are literally insane

pr65per for 15k hehe

There are quite a lot of Germans who holiday in the area I now live in. One of them has a sticker on their car in a EU style plate that I think would be pretty good.

Yes it certainly is... and was well documented on PH at the time,It did cause a lot of confusion and indeed at the time i recived some Fixed Penalty Tickets for the said plate....which was ultimately sold at auction as part of a huge multi million VAT confensaction order made to recover losses to HMRC.

Probably just a coincidence, as it's just the owners initials rather than anything to do with the retail chain, but my mate spotted A1 SCS on a red Fiat 500 outside a branch of SCS this afternoon.

Funnily enough a old friend of mine had "GT 1" on a few nice cars many years ago but didn't actually own the plate... iirc it was on loan to him for a better word from the George Thackray family...i don't really know why..? It wasn't his initials but i haven't seen him or the plate for years now..

I seem to remember GT1 on a Scooby that I saw at Cadwell many years ago ... I think they sponsored a young guy on a racing bike

I’ve seen GT 1 on various cars over the years. Same family have other GT plates and live around the Lincolnshire area I think.
